That 401k is an investment account, right?
I have something similar and I use an intermediate asset account, and then I transfer the funds from that asset account to the investment account.

even go in and look at the split, while 401K was just a portion of the
entire transaction.
I can upload screenshots of the 2 versions of the same transaction if
required.
Someone please help.. if not i will have to revert back to the older version
of kmymoney and also ubuntu 9.04 instead of 9.10
