Know your compression? compression test results

Well that was easy. I put a compression tester on my warm engine this morning and it read 43 pound of pressure (43 PSI).  The owner's manual says that the pressure range for the engine is 49 to 78 psi for the 8hp YS-828.  Am I far enough out of range to justify some engine work? (surprisingly the smaller 6hp Yamaha snowblower has a recommended pressure range of 57 to 85 psi.)

Did you hold the throttle wide open and pull thru 3 to 4 Times with engine warm?

I had the engine warm. I did not have the throttle wide open. I had it at an idle setting.  Is that bad?

Try again with throttle wide open  engine warmed and see your results. My guess is your engine is fine have seen much variability between compression testers.

As h8snow says, full throttle........that goes for every engine you do a compression test on, car, motorbike and so on.....full throttle is the way to test.

I'll give it another try.  I'd be curious what others have found if they tested their compression.
