Today, Kodak announced the retirement of Kodachrome. We knew it was a matter of time.

Sad as I feel to admit it, Kodachrome was "retired" for me more than a decade ago, since I could no longer have it developed anywhere in Mexico.

Good ol' 25 brought so many satisfactions.

I shot a lot of it over the years.  But since I got rid of my last 35mm
film bodies some years ago, and still have some Kodachrome in the freezer,
I can't actually manage any great outrage.

It's an important milestone in photography.  Kodachrome was an
epoch-making film.

That was the only one of the modern family I really liked.  I hated 64,
and never tried 200 (I was already quite comfortable with Ektachromes at
200 and 400 when the K200 came out).

My mother has some slides from some of the older members of the family,
but I never shot anything older than the basic K25.

I agree about the 25 versus the succeeding speeds.  There was only one Kodachrome.  Ektachrome was better in the higher speeds and I had long since moved to Fujichrome but now shoot no film.  With only one lab in the US processing Kodachrome it had obviously lost its place in the photographic world.  Too bad but inevitable I guess.  Like Studebakers and Kelvinators and  Carter's Little Liver Pills products come and go.  Some are more iconic than others.

How many rolls, David? Are they available for purchase?

A small number; single digits, not dozens or anything.  I suppose that the
best use for what I have would be to find it a good, caring home --
especially, in the case of the K25, while there's still a place to process
it.  I imagine Dwayne's (if I'm remembering the name right) will see a
short-term upswing in their business, but not a long-term one.

I'll add it to my list to go through what's there and inventory it.  Might
happen as soon as this weekend, maybe, with good luck and a tail-wind.

There was no lab in Israel to develop Kodachrome.
About ten years ago I purchased a  roll or two and used them during a
visit to Slovenia.
It was a pain in the ass to find how to develop them.
I was helped by this forum member, Christiana Roh who lived in Luzan -
Swiss where a KC lab was.
I gave the films to friends who traveled to Europe but they had not
enough time to wait , so the film did the travel twice till it was
developed.
I liked the outcome very much but didn't do it again.
