Well try to run perl sax_parser_print.pl wherever that file is in your koha installation directory
usually /koha/bin/sax_parser_print.pl

You should have XML::LibXML::SAX::Parser

If you don't have it then change ParserDetails.ini in /etc/perl/XML

C4::Context->preference does a very simple query. For more complex
ones, you can call it on C4::Context->dbh but it may be better to
add a function to C4::Context. Whether this is a good idea
depends on the motivation...

Chris, you are right, you can't put the alternative into the rank -
that's why I said to put it in the alternative field below the ranking
- then when we do the final survey we'll add other orgs to the list -
this list was based on what was discussed in that chat.

It appears the poll forces you to rank the existing choices and will
not allow you to place an alternative in the ranking order which

Ben,

Anyone can answer it - we just won't know that they aren't using Koha
yet :) Feel free to share this on any and all mailing lists - like I
said (and everyone said in the meeting) anyone with an interest in
Koha - now or in the future - is free to answer the questions -- I
just didn't think ahead of time to ask why they were answering :(

This probably falls under the same answer you gave Chris, but is there
anyway to expand the poll to include libraries that don't use Koha now
but may be considering a switch within the next, say, 5 years?

Marshall Breeding may already have a list of such libraries.

I am sorry for the delay, I was out of town the past few days. Per
our meeting on IRC earlier this week

together a survey with some foundation forming questions.

English: http://opensource.web2learning.net/limesurvey/index.php?sid=68645&lang=en
French: http://opensource.web2learning.net/limesurvey/index.php?sid=68645&lang=fr

The survey was created using the open source survey tool - LimeSurvey
- and so it requires that you have JS enabled. If you don't - you can
use one of these PDF versions to view the questions and just email
your answers.

The reason I chose this survey tool was because it would allow for
multiple languages, and it allows for some powerful analytics that I

Installing Koha on Windows can indeed be difficult. Note that you cannot install the latest version, 3.0, on windows. If you are attempting to install 2.2.9 on Windows, please tell us exactly what is going wrong.

Yes, this is the correct way to authenticate against an LDAP directory.
As you say, it requires no privileged access to the directory beyond
that granted to the authenticating user.

This normal behaviour (bind as authenticating user) is available in the
current development tree of Koha 3.x, and is not yet in any stable
release TTBOMK.

The ideal solution is to employ a simple keyboard shortcut map interface. Of
course there could be defaults, but the admin may change settings. This is a
good way to do it because it makes everyone happy regardless of their key
preference.

Speaking of preferences.... :) One way to do this is another category of
SysPrefs. Why would one need another interface when the SYSpref can certainly
handle it.

Check-Out [F1] <--use can set to whatever
Check-In [F2]

Then again, every database access is more time. Seems like these would be cached
in short order. Sys Prefs are used to determine functionality elsewhere.

Error in koha installation

I'm a newbie to koha. I tried to install koha in fedora10 linux. and had installed the koha with pre-requisites of essential perl modules,UTF-8 charset in mysql. I haven't installed Zebra, Yaz, since i'm not going to test with huge data contents. i followed INSTALL.fedora7 available in the koha-3.00.03 version tar file extracted. I couldnot understand sec 4.4 loading data for tests.

Installer document says to add Listen 8080 in the etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf file. Since Apache tomcat server is configured for 8080, i haven't added the line in the httpd.conf file.

Koha Virtual Appliances

Hey all,
I have finished uploading a new set of Koha virtual appliances. Each
version is available in VirtualBox or VMWare formats, and in
configured and unconfigured states. At the moment, there are versions
for the 3.01 official release, and versions for 3.01.00.032, which was
the latest from git.koha.org at the time it was created. The url is
http://kylehall.info/index.php/projects/koha/koha-virtual-appliance/ .
I created a login for koha.org ( kylemhall ), but I do not know how to
edit or add new pages. If anyone wants to put a page on koha.org for
the virtual appliances, you have my permission to use/modify the text
from my own site however you wish.

These version also have the curses based front end, kohamc, which I
mentioned. In the vm's, it's the shell for the root account. The
version in the 3.01 release is newer. I am very interested in getting
feedback about it. I think it would be great to expand this app to
allow it to run rebuild_zebra with whatever options a person might
want, and any other koha related activities that require cli work. Let
me know what you think. I forgot to add the GPL to the top, so I
hereby release the code to kohamc under the GPL v2.

If anyone here is familiar with perl/curses, is there a way to allow
the script to temporarily drop to a bash session, then return when a
user types exit?

The tag does have to exist locally to do it like that, so preceding it
with a git fetch, to make sure you have all the tags (though if you
have just cloned and its an old tag you will) is a good rule of thumb.

Its 3.0.1 :) And yes you certainly can checkout a tag.

git checkout -b mybranchfrom_a_tag v3.00.01-stable_update

Which makes a branch mybranchfrom_at_tag (give it a less silly name of
course) and checks it out.

as far as I can google, there is no way to check out a tag. Does
anyone have any advice.

One of the reason for this is I have written a perl/curses based
management console to make using the Koha vm even easier. Before, you
had to log in and find your ip via ifconfig. Now when you log in as
root, you are presented with a management interface that will tell you
what version of Koha you are running, what your ip is, and allow
updating via git, restarting apache, and restarting the zebra daemons
all from a menu system. It's still a work in progress. I'd like to add
even more control to it eventually. If I don't install Koha 3.1 via
git, the update command will break.

So, does anyone know how I can pull Koha 3.1 from git?

sometimes linux enables a firewall automatically for you, this could
possibly be the reason its not working. Its normally called iptables
so try this /etc/init.d/iptables stop as sudo or root.

if this doesnt work then something could be wrong in your apache
settings for koha.

Good idea - the GPL seems to have worked OK for the manual. MJ and I
discussed this a bit more on #koha yesterday, and MJ also suggested
either the GPL or a free-for-all. For the sake of completeness, the
other licenses that came up in the discussion include:

CC-BY - http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/
CC0 - http://creativecommons.org/license/zero/

I now think that the GPL is the way to go. I've updated the
relicensing page on the wiki
(http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=relicensing); are there any other
comments about the license or the voting process?

If you want to see the override.pl from the opac my suggestion would be
to put it under the /koha/opac folder rather than the /koha/intranet
folder.

The default config of apache is port virtual hosting, meaning you have
to type something like http://localhost:8080/ to get to the staff
interface. If you are using name virtual hosting then this just won't
work unless the override.pl is in /koha/opac folder. With name virtual
there is no way for the cookie holding the session id to make the
transition. With port virtual it is possible.

Another question is what url are you posting to exactly. There may be
some problem with where the page thinks override.pl is because of how
koha url's are.

koha/intranet/intranet-tmpl/prog/en/modules/circ/override.tmpl

I've changed the files so they work with each other, meaning the
override.pl uses the override.tmpl, so now why doesnt it show in the url
i enter? is it because im using OPAC and i need to do something in there?

Shelves are biblio based, with good reason. The item may have "more" info, but it is quite possibly *wrong* info compared to the other items on the same biblio. In logic, the shelf listing resembles most closely the hit list returned from a search, except that it is composed by an individual rather than returned by Zebra.

Importantly, the shelf should be able to represent titles where NO ITEM exists, and therefore cannot be item-based. Other than that, though, the workflow to add items to a list could very well accomodate barcode scanning in single or batch form.

Just an idea we could look at is how about modifying private virtual shelves to
have this ability. This could be a switch when making a staff intranet shelf.
This gives us a list we already have, and allows us to scan in barcodes. I have
not recently looked, but does the virtual shelf save a biblionumber or an
itemnumber. An itemnumber would be preferable as it contains more information
since it is one to one for the biblio instead of one to many (bib to items).

This covers the whole scanning and list making. Now we just need to add a
checked option for "bulk update" or something like that which allows us to
change the options that were specified like itype and location.

So the interface could be as follows:

Item 1
Item 2
...
Item n

[previous][options] [bulk update]

The bulk update would then open an interface below

[location drop down] [itype drop down] [lost status drop down]
[damaged status drop down]

The benefit of using a virtual shelf it that they are persistent. If
a library puts a list of items on display, generally they need a way to revert
to their former locations, so they would need switched back. If they are
already in a list then there is a way to do that. Items of similar itypes
and locations could be kept in a list, with a different list for itype/
location or for whatever purposes.
