Editing Freezed Feilds :: How TO

Hello all.

I an using KOHA 3.0.3 in Debian Lenny.

I have imported some data into the KOHA database and when I try to edit some fields, it seems to be freezed and I cannot edit them. They have a grey background. Others which are editable have white background.

Some of fileds I cannot edit are : 100a,110a,630a,650a

How can I edit them???

Please Help.

this i a bug fixed in git versione of 3.0.x.

Help:: Changing the Item Type in 942 'C'

Hello all.

I am using KOHA 3.0.3 and I am also using multiple database in it. I have come across a requirement to import contents with different "Item Types". I created a new content type and then added a new field in 942c from the Marc Editor to add a new field type in KOHA.

When I finish importing the data into KOHA, it shows the item code in the Marc Field search but doesnot change it in the 942c field. The 942c is kept remain as "Books" as default item type. Should not that field value change???

Moreover, even if I search the content type, it doesnot show up, even if it is there.

But when I manually change the value of 942c from the Drop Down list, and make a search it searched the item. What is that I'm must do additional to these???

Please Help.

Hi Rich,

I took care of the problem of the patron closing the browser by launching the browser from within this batch file:

:loop
c:\progra~1\intern~1\iexplore
goto loop

Now when a patron closes the browser, it launches again. There's still the problem of the patron killing the batch file, but that doesn't happen very often.

This is a fairly complicated process, it depends how much of the
circulation data you hope to transfer.

You can add some of it to the 952 field in a MARC record - this can
accommodate fields such as $l (letter l) number of times borrowed, and
$q due date of item if currently checked out. If you can tell where this
information resides in your old system, you can write a script to insert
it to the MARC records and them the bulk MARC import process will
include that in the item details.

However this does not tell you who has each item. That would need to be
imported to the issues table, as Chris says, and link to the borrowers
table for the details of the person who has the item. Issues link to the
borrower table through 'borrowernumber' and to the items table through
'itemnumber', and needs data such as branchcode, issuingbranch,
date_due, issuedate, and timestamp.

There is also oldissues, which holds the history of all completed checkouts.

This is stored in the issues table, not in the MARC.

We have a rather large database and I am trying to move it over, most of it has moved so far, but one major importation I can't figure out how do is all the currently borrowed books. I can't find a marc field or a koha variable that looks like it contains this information. There are over 1000 books currently checked out, I really don't want to have to do it by hand!

Delete outdated custom framework?

Hello everyone,

I'd like to delete an outdated MARC framework that I no longer use, but receive a warning that a number of records are related. If I delete the old framework, how will it impact the existing attached biblio records that were catalogued? Using Koha Linux 3.0, but soon updating to 3.4.

I tested by creating a new framework "tmp" using an existing custom pared-down framework with minimal number of MARC tags, and then created a test biblio record and associated item. When I went to delete "tmp" framework, the warning I received was "This framework is used 28 times." when actually I had only used it 1 time. I deleted the framework, then searched for the biblio and could not find it! I sure hope that 28 (or 27) legitimate records weren't deleted, but I don't know how to determine which records are associated with which frameworks.

Is the moral of the story, "Never delete frameworks that have biblio records attached"?

Can't seem to get languages on web installation

Hello,

I downloaded made and installed the git version of koha... very well, that's fine. I EVEN found out that I needed to run a script called install-code.pl fr-FR to have the french language support installed... very good. But now, for some strange reason, I have no option to install in "fr" on the web install page, I can only install in "en." Is there a way to bypass the web-install and just force everythign in french? Or is there another way to force the web-installer to do it in french? Thanks! You guys are special :)

You could use the old fake proxy trick where you set the proxy to be
the local machine and add exceptions for Koha and Amazon.

The Amazon content is pulled into the browser, not into Koha itself.
(All sorts of legal and practical reasons for this).
But you could configure your firewall for all the OPAC machines (I
assume you are just talking about the OPAC machines physically in the
library, not people accessing the OPAC from home) to restrict access
to just the amazon servers.
So they would only have access to a tiny part of the internet.

We had this problem for a while, we finally tracked it down to a load balancing firewall that was causing the SIP server to be overloaded with unresolved connections. Since the firewall was using two different ISP's, there were two different source IP's, causing hung connections that eventually choked the server to death.

Once our site had all of the SIP connections coming from one of the IP's, the problem resolved. Before we discovered the cause of the problem, our vendor had a cron job set to restart the SIP server every X number of minutes (I can't remember what the interval was, but it did help).

The overdue notices cron job bundles all overdue items together and
sends one email per patron.
Maybe you are thinking of the item due notice instead (which can be
set up to send before the item is overdue)

I got the following error when open web installer interface.

The link is VARCHAR(10) on patron attribute codes as well as
authorized values. And when you're writing codes it's good practice
to only have characters and numbers - no symbols.

You should have some informations after REINDEXING zebra.
The reason of this problem is usually zebra not being in a standard
directory. what does "which zebraidx" give to you ?

A lot of people have reported the problem of not being able to search their Koha database and several others have suggested running rebuild_zebra.pl with various parameters. But has anyone actually *solved* their problem and what was the solution? I’m at the early testing stage and am wondering if there are certain minimum record requirements for indexing to work properly. I am getting this kind of display (without the warning) but can’t search.

In fact, this feature is quite tricky to make that right.
