Reasonable membership dues, for either individuals or libraries, are supported here at our library, and I'm sure my director would give it positive consideration. I have my ALA membership paperwork tacked to the board in front of me, and I see we're paying $106 yearly for ALA ($40) + LITA ($60) for me, and I've only ever been to one LITA conference. I suspect some many tech people aren't high enough in the food chain to make it to ALA conferences. Just some of my random pre-2 Dec comments.

The same comment also holds true for whatever organization might come from the nascent "Koha-HLT" effort.

KUDOS - Koha Users and Developers of Open Source - is a group of individuals that are interested in promoting how we use of Koha in the United States. John Brice of Crawford County has registered it as a legal entity in the Common Wealth of PA, and is preparing paperwork to set up a 501(c3) status in order to handle dues to cover organization expenses.

The International Assoc. of Aquatic & Marine Science Libraries & Information Centers is meeting in Argentina October 17-21, 2010. So, while jetting from Oregon to Argentina to New Zealand could be fun, I don't think I could handle the stress.

If we can arrange a way for folks to virtually attend at least part of the conference, I would appreciate the efforts.

So it sounds like the November dates are going to be more expensive for international travelers, and partially conflict with another NZ conference that could limit local participation. The fact that the Nov. dates fall during Thanksgiving may also prove a limiting factor for any US-based attendees (in addition to the perceived/actual cost of travel that we've discussed before).

There is a slight possibility the October dates may conflict with the Internet Librarian 2010 conference, assuming it's held at the same time of year; I know members of our community have attended this conference before. US Koha Users Conference 2010

This is a re-post of an email sent previously. Please submit all applications by December 15th, 2009 as we hope to get the ball moving on this soon.

At the KUDOS meeting at ALA last summer there was a great deal of interest in holding a US Koha users group in spring 2010. The focus would be on Koha users coming together to help each other out. Vendor and developer participation would be more than welcome, but the meeting would be coordinated by users and most presentations would be done by users. If you are interested in hosting a US Koha users group in spring 2010, please fill out this form. If you are interested in evaluating meeting sites and/or helping out with planning the meeting, please let me know. It will take lots of people to get this done!

Problem with fine calculation

we have using koha 3.0 stable. but fine calculation module not working?. it will highlight only over dues message and title but do not calculate fine amount?. we have define circulation and fines rule as below

This problem has been reported in a previous discussion, back in August:

If you read that discussion, you'll notice that a bug was open, at the
time, for that issue:

The good news is that this bug has been fixed in Koha 3.0.4 that was
released on 21 October! :)

You can check this by reading the Release Notes for Koha 3.0.4, that

In that "Release Notes" page, in the section "Exhaustive list of bugs
fixed follows" you'll find, among many other bug fixes, the following
line: "3520 fix crash when adding or editing items".

So, my question is: are you using the version 3.0.4 of Koha? If NOT,
then my advice would be for you to update/upgrade your installation to
Koha 3.0.4, and see if that solves your problem. If you *are* already
using Koha 3.0.4, then I suggest that you reopen that Bug 3520 and
provide further input.

Stuck with mailing overdue notice

Hello all

I am using KOHA 3.0.3 with zebra server. I have sendmail and it sends mail from command line.

I have set up a new patron with an email address and also made a lot of overdue for that patron.

The fines.pl file calculates the fine very well.

But when it comes to mailing the patron about the overdue then I'm stuck.

I have set up the triggers and the rules for mailing as well. I have changed the /usr/share/koha/bin/cronjobs/crontab.example accordingly.

This is what I did to change the crontab.example file.

# crontab -u root crontab.example
# crontab -u kohaadmin crontab.example
# crontab -e

Now I edited the file, it uses nano editor to edit the crontab entries.

To save them I pressed Crtl+O and gave the path to save as /usr/share/koha/bin/cronjobs/crontab.example

To exit the crontab I pressed Ctrl+X.

To list the entries I used
# crontab -l
and it listed all my entries fine.

Now I waited for the cron to run, but it didnot send the mail while it accumulated the fine.
Both the fine and mail scripts are in the same crontab.

So I ran the overdue_message.pl and process_message_queue.pl manually. They showed me no error neither they send the mails.

What am I supposed to do now ????

I'm pretty much stucked.

Thanks for replying. I am using 3.00.02. I have solved the problem . I was trying to upload mrk file generated by delimited text translator, I ran it through MARC Maker and now it is working ok. Though a better error message would have helped. I will try using 3.00.04.

Which Koha version is it? I think 3.00.04 gives better error messages

to submit. All import errors should be on-screen, not in the logs,
because librarians can usually fix problems without waiting for the
server admin to check logs.

You can test the file from the server command-line with something like
perl -MMARC::File::USMARC -e 'print MARC::File::USMARC->in("MARCFILENAME.MRC")->next()->as_formatted()."\n";'
(at least for MARC21 format).

I'd prefer the November date. One thing to keep in mind for the USA folks, it either has the problem, or advantage, of being the same week as their Thanksgiving (November 25 in 2010). The reason why I prefer the November date is October is already stacked full of conferences (both in North America and Europe anyway). As you mostly all know, I am busy sorting out venues and dates for
Kohacon 2010.

I have managed to get the use of a really nice venue, located in the
middle of the CBD, close to restaurants and hotels. And at a really good
price. So with some sponsorship will be able to keep the conference
price free.

The dates it is available are the week of the 25th of October 2010, and
then again start the 22nd of November.
I am aware the second set of dates runs into Thanksgiving, for all the
US Koha users, so I think (correct me if I am wrong) that the October
dates are preferable.

So out of those 2 sets of dates,
25,26,27 October conference proper, 28,29,30,1 Hands on
workshop/hackfest.
OR
22,23,24 November conference proper, 25,26,27,28 Hands on workshop/hackfest

Is preferable, (I'm definitely leaning towards october, flights and
accomodation will be cheaper then also)

It's your web browser which is looking at localhost. That's right
because localhost is where Koha is running and it's Koha which is
trying to connect to z3950.loc.gov and reporting a connection failure.
Your web browser probably can't speak z39.50 protocol - HTTP is its
speciality.

If you're at a school, I'd expect the firewall is forbidding UDP
connections on port 7090 and you need to talk to the network
administrator to let the Koha server through.

Do you mean the sort of thing that's set under Home › Tools › Notices?
If so, that's in the database, not a file.

Off the top of my head, I think there may be changes coming to the
messaging system in 3.2. It might be worth discussing this on
koha-devel for how to have it work in both 3.0 and 3.2 with the least
work.

It should be easier to comply with WCAG 2.0 than 1.0 because WCAG 2.0
doesn't actually say much about accessibility (my opinion only) and
allows use of Javascript and random junk. Whether the OPAC complies
or not probably depends a lot on what templates are being used, but it
shouldn't be too hard to get the compliance, if someone is willing to
do or pay for the work. I don't think it was a 3.0 release goal, but
the release manager or maintainer might correct me on that in a mo.

The librarian interface almost certainly isn't because searching
http://bugs.koha.org/ for "valid html" suggests we've quite a few to
fix before we meet that prerequisite.

So, to summarise: I think the OPAC is close but probably not quite.
If someone did a proper analysis/report, that would be a big help!

This may not help, but...

We found that if the label size in the template was too small to fit the
data requested, then the label in the pdf simply did not contain that data.
Just to test this, try making the label size much bigger, and see
whether anything appears.

Sending mail from your client can be quite different to the server sending mail.

Does your server have an MTA installed, something like postfix, exim4
or sendmail?

I have recently set up overdue notices for any overdues in the library.

But when I run overdue_notices.pl manually it gives me the following error....

No branches with active overduerules at ./overdue_notices.pl line 262.

Can anyone here help me abt this problem.....I didn't understand what to do????

We really need to see the output from rebuild_zebra.pl.

Try running 'perl rebuild_zebra.pl -a -b -r -v' from the command line
as the 'koha' user and post the output here.
