Kohana future

Hi all,

I created a ticket [1] with a patch on the tracker of Kohana. The
subject was (what I think is) a bug in booleans handling. The
patch was refused because it does not respect the conception of
Kohana 2.3.

I'm (almost) ok with that, but the reason of this mail is the
message that closed the ticket :
 > We are not longer doing maintenance updates to the 2.3 branch.

Gallery 3 is not available, but the framework used is already
unmaintained. During the long life of Gallery 3, bugs will surely be
discovered in Kohana and (more serious) security issues.

So, I ask : are you going to migrate to Kohana 2.4 or will you take
charge of the maintenance of Kohana 2.3 ?

We will migrate to Kohana 2.4.  We've already submitted some patches
upstream that are only in 2.4.  It should not be a major deal for us to
upgrade.

If you submit your change against Kohana 2.4, we will pick it up when
they release and we convert over.  I'm happy to own that small tweak
until then (and if we get it wrong, you'll know right away because
Postgres support will break temporarily).

Is there a timeline for that ?

If the migration will happen before 3.0, I will stop to work with Kohana
2.3 and directly going to write a PgSQL driver for Kohana 2.4. Or may be
I will still do it. What is the current state of G3 over Kohana 2.4 ? Is
it totally broken ?

We have no plans yet to use Kohana 3.0.  It's a major change.  Kohana
2.4 will be a much smaller change and we'll use it when its integrated
back into their SVN trunk.  I don't know when that'll be.  I imagine
that G3 + K2.4 is broken right now since they've moved things around..
I haven't tested that combination yet and expect that it'll take me a
day or two of moving bits around to get them to fit together (but not
more than that).
