LG Dare Calendar and BitPim

I thought I had the problem if syncing my Google calendar to my Dare via BitPim solved, but it seems the solution was only partial.  I *can* get my calendar data onto my Dare, but it never works on the first try.  Each time, my phone shuts down service during the operation and all that happens is the calendar data already on the phone is wiped.  It usually takes several tries--and I can never figure out what ended up being different about the attempt that worked.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
