List moving

I've setup a list at GoogleGroups that is replacing this list. It will be used to communicate about my existing Lasso 8 tag library hosted at TagSwap.net, along with my upcoming Lasso 9 library which is hosted at GoogleCode.

No, they are free to use for any purpose and are in the public domain. So you don't have to worry about any licensing issues, should you ever use them.

Hi Bil,

I have the lp_library on my own computer to test and study in
preparation for future use.

I am not using any of the tags in my current solutions which are few.

I have 4 clients and 3 solutions running at this time.

One is simple and still in Lasso 6... no tags used there.

Two solutions are based on Gregs's "frameworks" version 1... ,

The other is based on "pageblocks" version from 5.1

I do intend to use the lp_library tags as needed, when a new a
contract comes up.

I might also used them in existing solutions, depending on new demands
from customers.

Is there shareware fee set for using your library on a production
server ?

I'll be glad to send something your way, in anticiaption of using it
in production.

Thank you for the kind words. Some day you'll have to share which tags you use in your solutions; I don't have much visibility into which tags are used nor by whom.

I've updated the Lasso.Pro library of tags, the entire set can be download as a single file from here:

The following tags have been added:

[lp_client_isAJAX] - Returns true if client is an AJAX (XHR) request.
[lp_include_url] - Charset-aware include_url, returns string instead of bytes.
[lp_site_restart] - Restarts the current Lasso site.
[lp_site_isStarting] - Returns true when the site starting up.

The following tags have been updated:

[lp_date_UTCtimestamp] - changes to Lasso required a fix for the tag
[lp_session_vars] - added the -string param
[lp_session_id] - added the -string param
[lp_client_browser] - total rewrite to support identifying browsers, bots, etc.
[lp_client_isBot] - total rewrite that now relies on [lp_client_browser].
[lp_page_path] - ->host now returns the value in the HOST header
[lp_header_nocache] - slight tweak that is more consistent with RFCs

Just a heads up about the library. I always upgrade to the latest version of Lasso and as such, all of the tags should work with the latest version. If you use an older version of Lasso, know that the library updates might break something. I don't do testing on older versions of Lasso after I upgrade because I no longer have a means to do so. But I will always list in tagSwap.net the version I tested the ctag with. Know that whatever version tagSwap lists, the ctag will work with that version of Lasso or better -- and it may work with older versions or it may not.

Whenever I make a change that might affect backwards-compatibility with older versions of Lasso, I'll try to let this list know. Of the tags below, the one that may not now work with prior versions of Lasso is [lp_date_serverDST] - which is used by [lp_date_stringtoDate] and others. It stopped working in LP8.5.1 due to some changes how DST is handled by Lasso, so I rewrote it to work with LP8.5.1. Unfortunately, I don't know if it still works with LP8.5.0 or prior versions. If you're using an older version of Lasso, make sure it works before you replace it.

The library has the following change:

[lp_date_stringToDate] - The optional param "-error" will now return your custom error if any of the keywords ("null","message","zerodate","error") are not found. So, for example, if a date string can't be converted, you can now specify that you want the current date returned by doing this:

[lp_date_stringToDate: $thestring, -error=(date)]

The library has the following changes:

[lp_header_serveXHTML] - removed extraneous semi-colon.

[lp_string_wordcount] - new tag that returns the number of "words" in a string. It's been updated since it was released, so be sure to grab it again if you have the original version.

[lp_inline_dataset] - added additional member tags.

[lp_iterate] - fixed a reference issue (not sure if it is a bug or not in Lasso, but it's been worked around).

[lp_demo_fullname] - new tag that returns a random American name. Useful for populating applications with demo data.

The library has a few fixes to the following tags:

[lp_client_isBot] - added "feed" as a bot

[lp_array_roundrobin] - made it a child of [array], but now it only works with LP8.5, it crashes LP8.1.

[lp_session_vars] - fixed a bug when a session didn't exist, it now will return an empty array (thanks Brett Harvey!)

[lp_iterate] - new tag that is similar to iterate. I did fix it so it now works when nested, so grab it again if you have the original version.

I'd suggest just grabbing the entire library:

For those that are interested, I posted two new ctags today:

[lp_array_roundrobin] <http://www.tagswap.net/lp_array_roundrobin>

This tag takes an array and returns one element per $var call.

Example:

var:'test' = (lp_array_roundrobin:(:'a','b','c','d','e'));
loop: 10;
$test; // returns: abcdeabcde
/loop;

[lp_iterate] <http://www.tagswap.net/lp_iterate>

This tag is just like iterate, but the looping var is optional (instead, use loop_item). It's based on code from John Burwell.

Example:

lp_iterate: (:'a','b','c');
loop_item; // returns: abc
/lp_iterate;

Jason Huck pointed out that LP8 now has an array->reverse member tag. So my ctag has been pulled. Doh!

I added two new tags:

[lp_array_reverse] = Returns an array in reverse order.

[lp_date_stringToOffset] = Returns a standardize timezone string (e.g. +0100) given a timezone offset string. Optionally can return a map of the hours and minutes.

Library Updates

(1) [lp_date_stringToDate]

A new version of [lp_date_stringToDate] was posted. It now will recognize date strings that have the time included, such as:

lp_date_stringToDate:'10/20/2006 12:55:00';

It will return the date in the local server time, even if you pass it a date in UTC/GMT:

lp_date_stringToDate:'10/20/2006 12:55:00 GMT';

(2) [lp_date_getLocalTimeZone]

A new tag in the library, it is similar to the built-in tag [date_getLocalTimeZone] except you can specify the date at which to evaluate it (it'll take DST into account). It returns the timezone offset of the server. So while my server is at UTC offset -0800 during the winter, it's at -0700 during the summer.

Lasso.Pro Ctag Library Background

Thank you everyone for your interest in the Lasso.Pro ctag library. The library is a collection of tags I've developed over the years, updated to Lasso 8. I wanted to explain a bit about the library and to let you know that the library is fluid - as I use these tags in projects, I fix bugs and update functionality. Should you have a suggestion about how a tag is named, called, coded, or it's functionality, please direct that feedback here. I hope that the library will become a community effort that all of us can use on projects.

Below are various tidbits about the library that eventually will become a FAQ:

(1) Tag Naming

Tags are named in the format [lp_<catagory>_<tagname>] such as:

lp_string_random
lp_math_bintohex
lp_protect_break

When the catagory and tagname are the same, I've opted to drop the tagname, such as

lp_protect (instead of lp_protect_protect)

The prefaced "lp_" makes it easy to spot that the tag is part of the Lasso.Pro library, the catagory allows easy sorting/finding - when you want a string function, look for anything beginning with "lp_string", when you want a math function, look for anything beginning with "lp_math".

(2) Licensing

The library is released into the public domain. This means you can use it for any purpose you wish. You don't have to acknowledge the library in your products (although it would be nice and would perhaps attract more developers to the project), you don't have to pay any licensing fees, you don't have to return any improvements to the project (it would be nice if you did), or anything else a license might require. Use it. Make money with it. Be happy.

(3) Feedback

All feedback, bug reports, feature suggestions, etc should be directed to the Lasso.Pro library list.

(4) Tech support

Direct any questions to the Lasso.Pro library list.

(5) Updates

As I update the library, I'll post the announcement to the Lasso.Pro list.

(6) Library Download
