Hi everybody.

Thanks to this group I have been able to grow a lot. There are really
great people that have really good discussions over here.

Unlikely we didn't have any spanish alternative group to have the same
kind of discussions, or plan local events, meetings, etc. Due to this
fact, I have decided to create a spanish group
http://aseguramientocalidadsoftware.ning.com in order to let people that
speaks spanish be able to grow, promoting the free-knowledge concept.

The idea of this spanish group is just to complement NOT to replace this
group. So more people is able to grow and we can promote our local
events.

So, feel free to join, add posts, notes, events, discussion, online
chatting, promote your projects, create subgroups, etc etc.

Thanks everybody for sharing your knowledge.

Hi Hernan,

Good idea, but just a note that Brazil is not a spanish country, our
oficial language is Portuguese :).
Anyways, my spanish is a little rusty but feel free to count me in.

Thanks and Regards
Rafael

Thanks Rafael.

About Brazil, the idea was to be included in this social group because
inside the site they can create their own sub-group and speak Portuguese
over there. I preferred doing that rather than excluding Brazil.

Another alternative is to create a new social group for Portuguese
speakers. If you prefer this we can do this an promote it.
What I would not like to loose is the connection between the groups. I
think it would be great to know what's is going on, in the different
countries, such as events, projects , etc, etc ,etc.
I mean I would like to keep the projects, events sharing.

The base idea of all this, is to allow people all around the world to:

 - Have FREE access to knowledge
 - Be able to promote their ideas  (new techniques, concepts, etc)
 - Be able to promote their Projects
 - Join projects
 - Promote events
 - Discuss

and from the social side:
 - Promote people to travel around the world
 - Connect people with other people from other cultures

etc etc

(All this oriented to QA)

I think that nowadays people are able to do that but there isn't a place
where all this stuff is concentrated. (It's true that we have
http://www.qaiglobalinstitute.com, but we need to pay for membership)

Searching on the web I found ning, elgg, dolphin, liferay and some other
social frameworks.
I chose ning because it had all the features that were needed and it
satisfied the needs. If the community gets mature we will probably need
to move to another solution, where we are able to customize the site
according to the needs.

Maybe is a good idea instead of encouraging this for LA, to do it for a
global site, being able to create subgroups (maybe subdomains) for each
country.

Any alternative ideas are welcome.

Thanks,

Hernan

Yeah, I agree qith your idea. I think this VERY important. I was just commenting that we speak Portuguese, some people here may not know that.

If we take this plan forward I would say it's better to keep things connected, globally and then wach group sub set can create their own space like a branch with its headquarters in the corporate world.

The idea is to have a global site, which divides in small pieces by country or geography.

Let me know how can I help with this project and I will do my best :)

See ya,

Rafael

Hi Rafael,

Sorry for answering so late. Thanks for offering your help. I
totally agree with you about having the global site and then the
branches.

In order to fulfill that objective I think we still need to get the
Ibero American community more mature. With this I mean that the Ibero
American community should know some central places where they can find
info, training and what ever. Nowadays I think that we are always
appealing to other communities, but we never find a local community that
satisfies our needs. Also due to the fact that not all people know
english, they don't have access to this kind of free-learning.

That's why I think or next big step is to help some way to start
building this centralized community. And next step would be to build the
global one.

About ACS (aseguramientocalidadsoftware.ning.com) the to-dos are:
 1. We still need to make people join this community
   - Google indexation so that people can find info about what they are
looking.
 2. Stimulate people to participate

I think those are the specific things we need to be focused on right
now.

About the Brazilian branch, I have created the Brazil group. Feel free
to use that one. Or maybe it would be more comfortable for you to create
the Brazil ACS network and we can link both social networks. With this
last solution we will need find out how to integrate events and other
good stuff.

If you want we can continue with this thread in the ACS forum so that we
don't "spam" people from this group.

Thanks,

Hernan

Hi Hernan,

Great Idea, but one thing to have in mind is that even we don't have a
community to debate this kind of concepts it is more important to focus on
try not to translate them.

The problem I have see here in Colombia is that when someone talks about
"Exploratory testing" for example, they mix wrong stuff (agile-testing,
ad-hoc, just manual testing, untrained testing), and after fight for a long
time I realize that the problem was just a big lost in the translation.

So I tell my students to come to spaces like this list and ask questions
here, and join the debate here, and construct their own speeches in Spanish
if they want, but trying to understand the core of the concepts, and for me
this core is english made.

Hello Hernan,
I really believe in virtual communities, though I know by experience that
they can grow much more quickly if they have a way to meet in person. That
being said, I would like to invite you and all the group to meet at Ágiles
2009 <http://www.agiles2009.org> - the second Latin American Conference
about Agile Methodologies. It's gonna be in Florianópolis, next week. If you
think it's feasible, we can arrange an open space so that you can discuss
the ideas about the LATAM QA Social group during the conference with the
other attendees.

Hope this message was not that late.
Cheers,
Samuel

Hi Jose and Samuel,

Sorry for answering so late. I messed up
all my emails, and for some reason I didn't read the lasts emails about this
thread.

Thank you very much for participating and giving ideas!

Jose:
+1 . I totally agree that we should be focused on core things and not
translations. Thanks for joining the community.
Feel free to suggest any idea and post what ever you want.

Samuel:
Thanks a bunch for the invitation. (Unlikely I read it too late)
I totally agree that making regular meetings (1 each month maybe) it will be
really helpful for the community. From my side, I am going to talk with the
leader of my company to see if they want to sponsor the community (just
giving a place were we  can meet, the office) and foward the idea to the
whole community

About Agiles 2009, the message wasn't late, I read it too late. It would be
really great to discuss the idea of the QA LATAM in that event. I am sure
there is going to be a next event where we are going to be able to discuss
it. In the meantime I am going to make a big effort in helping the community
to grow.

Feel free to suggest any idea ! I have created an special group that we can
use to discuss how we can do to help this community grow:

http://aseguramientocalidadsoftware.ning.com/group/acswebsite

Also, thanks Xavier for fowarding this thread to the foro-agiles group!

Regards everybody

Hernán Castagnola
