Dear friends,
As some of you may know, I've recorded an album of Eastern European traditional songs. It's called "If I had a key to the dawn: Love songs and laments from Eastern Europe." I have the privilege of being accompanied by many extremely talented instrumentalists, and the result is a sort of nocturnal journey through haunting melodies and dark spaces.
The deepest purpose of this album is to communicate the love I felt for these songs to friends and family, to help others see them as I do. It is my sincere wish that these songs may comfort, strengthen and inspire others as they have done myself.
The official release is this Tuesday (June 23rd). You can already purchase it from my website:
http://www.songbat.com/dawn
and CDBaby:
http://cdbaby.com/cd/lilystorm
Until Tuesday I am selling it for $12 on my website, after which it will go up.
You can also download it digitally at itunes, although I recommend getting the actual CD as all the lyrics and translations are included in the liner notes, and help give the songs their full impact.
You can also purchase it from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/If-I-Had-Key-Dawn/dp/B002A8QJ96
(although in that case Amazon takes a 55% cut).
If you want to listen before buying, there are samples in all the above mentioned places, except my website (the last soon to be remedied).
Please feel free to spread the word, for example by forwarding this email or telling your friends. Promoting an independent album is hard and any help is greatly appreciated. And if you should feel so inclined, a review at Amazon, cdbaby or itunes would also be very appreciated and helpful (Amazon will work after Tuesday).

For those of you who want something lighter, I'm currently recording an album of lullabies from all over Europe. They are sweet, tender and most of them are actually fairly happy! I hope to get it out soon, especially since so many of my friends have started families!

p.s. I haven't sent an email like this since last fall, because my hard drive crashed then (yes, I've been more careful about backing up! no lectures please). I have spent a lot of time painstakingly reconstructing my address book from old notes, mailing lists, little scraps of paper with emails scrawled. So there is a very good chance I have added a few people in error; if this is you please accept my sincere apologies and do not hesitate to ask me to remove your address from my mailing list, or change it to a more convenient one! Thank you!
