I have a problem with both these switches:
if i try to connect to web management whith firefox, either from linux or
windowsXP, i do not go further than authentication, then having the
background, then nothing ...
same with konqueror or opera.
I thing there is some problem in js interpretation. has some one succeeded
in managing such switches fron non MS browsers ?

This switch admin web interface is just so bad, it's just a joke. Many
people complained about the bad web interface compatibility.

In fact, it's so buggy and wrongly coded, that it only works with IE6,
not even with IE7 and IE8. Worth: linksys does not seem to care about
the issue, according to the forum.

Boycott the product, send it back to your reseller, and get a real
switch from other brands...

Don't get a Cisco Catalyst Express, though. I've been really happy with
HP's ProCurve switches as a substitute for Cisco in many cases and
they're less expensive.

I've been very happy as well with an HP Procurve 2810-48 that someone
here recommended. It had to suffer few DDoS attack, and it never failed,
even with all the gigabit ports being 70% used...

The only thing I dislike is that it takes a bit too much time for the
switch to learn new IP <-> mac things. Like, when switching ports, it
takes quite some time for the switch to learn it (maybe over 5
minutes?). Also, having a byte counter in 32 bits is quite silly...

Apart from that, so far, so good.

Not the least bit surprising. I have a Netgear FS728TS where the web
interface only worked in IE6 for the longest time, until a firmware
updated added Firefox support.

That was for home use though - there is a lot of decent Cisco gear on
eBay if that's your thing. Personally I've found HP's lower-end ProCurve
switches very braindead in terms of features and administration.

Cheers

Allow me to offer you my sincerest sympathies. I, too, went and bought
2 of these. I then promptly discovered that they only work with IE5.5-IE7
and IE8 in compatability mode. They wont work with any other browser I
tried. After calling the place we bought them from and arguing around
the idea of 'not fit for purpose' we got our money back.

I went and bought similarily cheap-arse Dells. They work and work well. :)

Personally, after experiencing these Linksys switches, I wont be purchasing
again. What, in the name of all that is holy, possessed them to still release
IE-only products in 2009 is beyond me. Especially to a market filled with
people who are bound to use something else.

The ip <-> mac thing? You mean ARP? :)
It's perfectly normal for it to take over 5 minutes in many cases, and
any managed switch will allow you to flush the ARP cache when this poses
a problem. This "problem" exists just as well for Cisco as for HP
ProCurve switches.

Just my 2c here: go Cisco...
