So as long we don't get too many ads and proprietary software isn't included in the job description, then I think it should be allowed. What does everyone else think? It's your list, what do you want to see!? _______________________________________________ Fsuk-manchester mailing list Fsuk-manchester@... http://lists.nongnu.org/mailman/listinfo/fsuk-manchester |

I know of several computer people who have been made redundant recently so I am sure that details of any job opportunities in this sector would be very welcome. It is also good to know if there are paid jobs available in free software. patermann _______________________________________________ Fsuk-manchester mailing list Fsuk-manchester@... http://lists.nongnu.org/mailman/listinfo/fsuk-manchester |

It's your list, what do you want to see!? I think they should be politely redirected to the linuxjobs list at lug.org.uk. I suspect only a very small subset of the list's membership are looking for a new employer and (present company excepted) many people who post job ads are persistent ignorant swines who will ignore any limitation like "not too many" and "no proprietary software" (written with my ex-list-admin hat on). Free software jobs seem rather important for the community, and even if you aren't in the market it's surely good to know about free software opportunities in the area. I think it's something the group should take a definite interest in. -- Dave (feeling guilty about lack of attendance at meetings) _______________________________________________ Fsuk-manchester mailing list Fsuk-manchester@... http://lists.nongnu.org/mailman/listinfo/fsuk-manchester |

(If they aren't obtrusive, brash, offtopic or one a week from the same person) I just wish more free software orientated jobs were pushed to the free software community. My boss wasn't even aware that there *were* communities or relevant groups he could have pushed the details to. In retrospect, it's surprising he found anyone useful at all though now I'm there, I don't think we'll have this problem. :) Tim P.s. I really, really dislike recruitment agencies. :) _______________________________________________ Fsuk-manchester mailing list Fsuk-manchester@... http://lists.nongnu.org/mailman/listinfo/fsuk-manchester |

Re: Linux job adverts ok on this list?I didn’t notice this until a recent reply…

For example, I work with GNU/Linux, but it’s not the primary aspect of the job, and I have to work with proprietary software too. I would very much prefer to only work with free software, and that’s the sort of stuff I’m happy to see advertised on the list. Sure. It's not the first slightly-misnamed email list in the world. The full description says "Linux and/or FLOSS component". > > I suspect only a very small subset of the list's > > membership are looking for a new employer > > Maybe, but perhaps those of us who are and live around Manchester should > carry some weight. [...] Probably, but someone asked everyone. Is Sheffield (at least an hour's commute from Manchester?) really "around Manchester"? How about Cumbria? Also there are a lot of telecommute-friendly jobs which would be available to people around Manchester but better on lug.org.uk. Thanks for the pointer to the Linuxjobs list (from MJ Ray) - I wasn't aware of that one. I've subscribed and note that there is some activity on it from employers. Will post there with our next job advert. For information, the job I advertised was concerned with building _both_ proprietary and free software, using an almost exclusively free software development environment, with Linux the kernel of choice both for development systems and for the network appliances we build. Naturally, we don't mix free and proprietary in any way that would contravene anyone's licence. best regards, Seb James -- William Matthew Limited Direct Line: +44 (0)114 2132887 _______________________________________________ Fsuk-manchester mailing list Fsuk-manchester@... http://lists.nongnu.org/mailman/listinfo/fsuk-manchester |
