Loss of power
Bike starts and runs fine. Will not accelerate beyond fifty five ish apart from down hill. Throttle cable changed, no clutch slip, new plugs, clean air filter, good fuel flow, brakes not binding any ideas folks.

Re: Loss of power
First, clean your carbs, I have noticed on my bike that I end up cleaning it a couple times a year because I use cheap fuel. Second thing I would do is check your choke. my choke stuck and I never had an power because it was always bogging. I fouled alot of plugs

Re: Loss of power
What is the model and year of the bike? If it runs OK at lower speeds, put about 1/2 can of SeaFoam in the tank and run it through the system. You may have to do it twice, but it will clean most of the gunk out of the carbs. When you try to push it past 55, what does it do? Does it spit and/or backfire? You might look for a plugged fuel cap or carb vent or you could have an air leak in the carb diaphrams assuming the carbs are Hitachi's.

Re: Loss of power
The bike Is a 535 '94. When I push it past 55 it starts to struggle and won't go over 60 except downhill and with a hefty tail wind, but no spitting or backfiring. It runs as sweet as a nut below 55

Re: Loss of power
The carbs are Mikuni's in that model year. The items I pointed out above still apply. It sounds like it is starving for fuel. Try losening the fuel cap when it starts losing power, if that doesn't make a difference, try checking your fuel levels in the carbs. If they are set too low, it could be running out of fuel at higher RPM's and loads.

Re: Loss of power
I also have this problem, and I'm really scratching my head on it. I replaced the plugs, fuel filter, ran with the gas cap open, but to no change.
I recently decided to do something foolish and run it for a trip, which it did fine on (I could get up to 75), but on the way back, it suddenly started to backfire a bit, then wouldn't go faster than 35-41mph, regardless of gear I was in. It took forever to accelerate to that point, and saw the gas mileage go down to about 23 mi/gal or so (I had the throttle all the way open to keep it up to 35mph).
Took the fuel line coming from the fuel pump to the carbs off and noticed that there seemed to be very little pressure, but need to get something to measure that before I could claim that to be the problem.
I also noticed that the battery is reading about 12.1V run reving to ~3K RPM, so I will get that checked, but I don't think that is the problem either.
Anyone know more about this?
