Good post on that blog!
I've always wondered about loud pipes and how useful they really were.  This past weekend all mystery was gone.  I was returning from Maine, on I-78 in New Jersey when I spied a Harley coming up - fast - behind me.  I couldn't hear him at all and as he got closer and closer I admired the lines of his bike, the smoothness, his control and, most of all, how quiet his bike was. It wasn't until he pulled up beside me and passed that I heard him...  and he was LOUD!  My eardrums were assaulted to the point where I thought they would bleed, as a matter of fact I think my ears are still ringing from the noise.  This little incident proved to me that the noise from loud pipes doesn't project forward from the bike, given all the reasons in that blog post.  All loud pipes do is piss people off.

Joel

Loud pipes. I hear them almost every day on the 395 HOV lanes on the way to work.  I try to pass them as quickly as possible, because I know that I won't hear him again if I do.
If I get stuck behind one in traffic, I can hear him for at least a mile.... as long as he is moving away from me.
What a Hoot.
