MH working with CM12

hi,

I'm currently living in a 230V country, so my first choice of INSTEON is out.

Next option I'm considering is X10, with the CM12U interface.

Question is, I'm running MH on a Linux box, and the CM12U comes in a USB flavour. Will that work with MH?

Or should I go with the serial version (trying to avoid that)

The controller I'm referring to is this: http://x10-hk.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=56&products_id=152

Or, should I head over and get a CM15?

Thanks so much for the help.

Marmitek used to ship both the serial and USB cable with the CM12U.
I don't know if automation@home continues to do this.

Many users of Heyu software (http://www.heyu.org) under Linux experienced
lockups or other aberrant behavior with the USB cable which disappeared
when they switched to the serial cable along with a regular USB->Serial
adapter.

Hi Edward,

if you only need to control devices on/off then another alternative
could be the plugwise products (www.plugwise.com). That are wall plugs
that can be controlled wirelessly (ZigBee) through a USB stick.

I currently have a first version of a module for Misterhouse that
interfaces with the xpl-perl plugwise module. I hope to release it
this weekend. There are still some quirks that I need to iron out first.

Best regards,
  Lieven.

Hmm thanks for the heads up, just checked the website and realise that the "plug head" is different =(

I'm actually using the 3-pin plugs used in the UK. But it looks just about right for my needs, simple and not too complicated.

Hi Edward,

I'm based in UK.  I have MH running with CM12U quite happily.  For about 3-4
years it has been on a serial port, however, I'm in process of moving my server
to a PC that does not have a serial port.  So, rather than buying a new CM12U
with a USB connect I actually tried a Serial-USB converter.  I has been running
fine on that for about six weeks now.
