MIDI overload?

Hi list,

Has anyone experienced strange behaviour of the G2 resetting program
chances in conjunction with a high volume of MIDI messages, with the
editor open, or even with it closed? I'm trying to play a sequence
through Logic, and it repeatedly resets to Patch 1 on Bank 1 whenever it
seems to receive clusters of MIDI messages. The volume settings also
seem to jump to a couple different values.

I'm sending it CC messages (five different ones) out of Logic's GM
output modules. I moved from the Hyper Editor to straight automation
data because it seems to remove redundant messages much better, though
it's a bitch to edit. I've hooked up a monitor to the output for
diagnostics, and it doesn't look like I'm sending any accidental Program
Change or Volume messages, and I've checked my tracks over many times to
make sure they're not sending any extraneous data (just CC).

The fact that it never occurs at exactly the same place (although some
places more commonly than others, where there is more simulatanous CC
messages) suggests to me that it is some fallback in the hardware from
receiving an overload of MIDI messages. Maybe Logic is doing something
behind my back — that seems to be its specialty.

I'm on Leopard and a MacIntel.

Two things are known:

That sneaky Logic behavior and the sensibility of Nords to a Midi overload,
although they mostly crash instead of resetting to Bank 1.1...

Hi Timothy,

I fear that the G2 has some issues related to MIDI. I had the effect
that sending a lot of CC data as well as a Program Change (which does
my Cubase) even leads to a freeze of the G2x (in my case). At the end,
people at Clavia could reproduce this fault but they told me that it
will not be really expected to be solved since the activities at the
G2 were closed. This was about one year ago. So I think you have use a
MIDI filter (maybe in combinateion with a delay) to reduce the
unnecessary CC data to solve the issue. In my case I used a Yamaha
MEP-4 MIDI processor that helped me.

Good luck,
Werner

thanks you guys. Despite it being pretty clear what part of the system
was to blame here, I had more expected it to be one of those problems
that only happens to me.

When my roommate first got his G2 keyboard in 2004, I crashed it from
the keyboard control panel within about a half hour :)
