MIO Moov 580 - how to connect it to external power and baro?Hi
I am very new to the use of PDA/PNA's in relation to soaring (just started soaring again after a ten break )
I have XCSoar running on a MIO Moov 580 ![]() I see that others are doing that too! How do you connect to external power (wiring, power transformers?) I would like to connect to the Volkslogger we use in our club gliders to get the baro reading, does anyone here know how to do that ![]() Rgds Jens Aalborg Aero Sport, Denmark |

Re: MIO Moov 580 - how to connect it to external power and baro?Hi Rob,
I have not solved the problem yet, I decided just to use the MIO as on its own this summer, and then I will look for a solution during the comming winter :-) Another member of our club asked the people at www.k6-team.de about a solution, you can see a copy of their mails below. I will have a closer look at this solution during the winter! Jens ---------------------------------------------------------- Hello Poul, there is no limit for connected units with seriel RS232 port. Also for Volkslogger. The PNA must have a Bluetooth to seriel (a serial com port uses the bluetooth). The Mio Moov 580 PNA has Bluetooth 2.0. It should work. For deklaration and download you need a to K6Bt adapted software, because the seriel baudrate can be switched by software over Bluetooth. You can use the adapted software connectMe or psConnect. (Feeware SeeYou and StrePla) Kind regards Hans Poul Guldbæk schrieb: Sir/Madam, In our club the gliders are all equiped with a mount and power outlet for a Volkslogger and we have a pool of loggers for common use. We are now experimenting with the Mio Moov 580 PNA as a platform for XCsoar (the Mio has a GPS itself, but for vario-functions a presure reading would be much better). The Mio - like most new devices - don't have a serial port, but is Bluetooth enabled. And now the question: Is your K6 Bt able to connect to the Volkslogger? (It's not mentionen in the list, but I assume it's not limited to devices listed there.) Yours, /Poul Guldbaek ----------------------------------------------------------

Re: MIO Moov 580 - how to connect it to external power and baro?
Jens,
I recently installed the Mio Moov 500 and XCSoar 5.2.4 PNA with a cable to my Cambridge 302: 1) The power/data cable described on this newsgroup for the IPAQ 310 worked with the Mio 500: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.postfrontal.com%2Fforum%2Ftopic.asp%3FTOPIC_ID%3D2687 2) The Mio's RS232 port communicated down to 4800 baud, so I was able to interface the Mio with the CAI 302 for gps, mccready, airspeed, etc (the IPAQ 310 does not work below 9600) 3) The power drain of the Mio was about a third the power drain of the IPAQ 310. 4) The Mio screen is slightly larger (with less resolution) than the 310, but suffers similar weakness as other devices in sunlight. Overall, the Mio 500 was a slight improvement over other devices I've tried with XCSoar.
