I offer this research to anyone who wishes to use a Mac.

I have a older Mac iBook G3 384meg ram, 500mhz, OSX 10.4 Tiger.  jOrgan 2.3.1

Developer Software AU Lab… as the host for soundfont Jeux d’orgues 2.

Install Xcode Tools from OSX 10.4 Tiger disk.  (installs AU Lab)  AU Lab will be in \Developer\Applications\Audio.  (includes doc’s)

Install desired soundfont in \Library\Audio\Sounds\Banks  (system recognizes location)

Open AU Lab.  First document is “Create New Document”, simply hit OK.  You will then see a single mixer panel. Go to “Edit” and select “Add Audio Unit Instrument”.  In the dialog box for “MIDI Input Source” select “Any MIDI Controller”  NOTE: you may choose to click “Hide Audio Unit Details” and select “Send Mode (Internal Reverb  Off)  Click “OK”

“Stereo Mix: DLSMusicDevice” box will appear. Open Sound Bank: and select your soundfont.  In my case “jeux d’orgues 2.1”  (This is the soundfont you placed in \Library\Audio\Sounds\Banks )
Continue on this dialogue box by going to “AUDLS View” and select “MIDI Editor”.  In Active Channels select ALL 16 ”Channels” with your mouse cursor.  (This allows the DLSMusicDevice to receive all the outputs from jOrgan.)

Under “Controllers” uncheck any you wish.

Close the dialogue box.  Save if you wish.  Your sound engine is now setup.

Open jOrgan and use “Import” to get the stops from the soundfont you selected… or create your disposition.  Sometimes you will lock-up jOrgan.  Just Exit and save while exiting and the start jOrgan back up and continue.  Nothing is lost.

On the Sound Source Element Select “DLS Music Device”.  Two Sound Sources make the whole soundfont Jeux d’orgue 2 play.

jOrgan is functional to the extent that this old laptop computer can keep up with the playing.  The sound output of the laptop when connected to a better sound system was quite good.

I also used Simple Synth 1.1 and Jeux d’orgue 2 worked perfectly. (Simple Synth has a Virtual Midi Input)

You may need Plumstone 1.3 if jOrgan can not see the “DLS Music Device”.

Networking MIDI is also possible… I don’t have two Mac’s to check this out.

The results are amazing to me… the sound quite good with reverb available.
Kindest Regards
Marc-Paul

In addition to jOrgan 2.3.1, the AU Lab also works perfectly with 3.7.  I imported the Jeux d'orgue 2 disposition from 2.3.1 perfectly.  The only hitch was that jOrgan 3.7 would not see my Edirol UM-2 midi device... so I used midipipe to grab it's midi data and put it into jOrgan.  Midipipe has the additional benefit of its own keyboard.

The midipipe keyboard will play the DLSMusicDevice directly also... however it does not loop the samples, so it gives a pizzicato effect.  It plays jOrgan fine.
Kindest Regards

2nd addition.  I have just used jOrgan 2.3.1 to control two soundfonts hosted by AU Lab.  Both Solo and Main from the JT Wurlitzer soundfonts.  AU Lab and OSX 10.4 Tiger is capable of hosting multiple soundfonts and jOrgan can be set up to transmit to these independently.

Again I used jOrgans Import utility to get the stops from both soundfonts and create a disposition.

I have exceeded the capabilities of my computer to process information.  Remember it is a 500mhz G3 iBook.

AU Lab appears to be capable of many more things.
Kindest Regards
