Mac no good ... but!So I buy an intel Mac and finish iPhone game dev (don't want to / not
successful), Lord Mortis said I can always install Windows it instead. This got me thinking. Could I make it dual boot instead and the best of both worlds? And if you have enough RAM to make it usable, you can put a virtualisation product (like Parallels or VMWare) on it, and run both at once if you really need to. Re: Mac no good ... but!MacOS is the only OS that can triple-boot MacOS, Windows and Linux by default.
Either use Bootcamp to dual boot your system, or use Parallels to run Windows within MacOS. I've seen it in practice at uni, and it's what pushed me over to the Mac buying camp (As soon as I have some money) On Thu, Apr 30, 2009 at 2:13 PM, Andy H <andyhawkins@...> wrote: So I buy an intel Mac and finish iPhone game dev (don't want to / not successful), Lord Mortis said I can always install Windows it instead. |

Re: Mac no good ... but!Yep; OSX has a little tool called boot camp. It sets up an NTFS partion and all the dual boot trappings, ready for a windows install. After you install, you pop the OSX disk in and it's got all the appropriate drivers. (Hopefully not sounding too much like a mac evangelist, but i thought this was fairly classy.)
If you prefer the ability to flip between them without a reset, there is always Paralells or VMware for running a Virtual PC. 2009/4/30 Andy H <andyhawkins@...> So I buy an intel Mac and finish iPhone game dev (don't want to / not successful), Lord Mortis said I can always install Windows it instead. |

I originally bootcamp'ed WinXP on my MacBook Pro, but have been making a concerted effort to switch over to OSX and use VMWare Fusion for everything I need from Windows. It's quite nifty actually, you get your windows applications running in a floating windows as if they were native OSX apps! The only reason I boot into WinXP on it now is to play games if I'm not at home. Highly recomended! :) Will Dowling T: +61 (0407) 421 559 F: +61 (08) 6364 4881 E: will@... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: pigmi-unsubscribe@... Re: Mac no good ... but!
Gee I missed a few words out of that last email :) Sry.
Thanks this is great news. Parallels is good too, it means I can run ShiVa on Mac too. Andy H. MacOS is the only OS that can triple-boot MacOS, Windows and Linux by default. |

Re: Mac no good ... but!Sorry, I didn't word that very well. By "default" I meant without needing to hack the OS.

With VMWare at least, you can run the Virtual PC using the disk defined in your Bootcamp partition. That lets you boot native XP or whatever for playing games but have the same setup available most of the time whilst running OS/X. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: pigmi-unsubscribe@...
