Mac showing boot up codeI have just received a new iMac. When it came in with Leopard 10.5.6 on it,
it behaved as I am used to. I have reimaged it with an image I had of 10.5.7, and now it shows the boot up code in the window before it actually boots up, also when you log out of one user and into another, which is quite annoying. I have never seen this behavior on a Mac before. Is there a setting somewhere I can change to stop this display of the boot up window? -- Susan Alston Internet Developer/Blackboard Administrator Chowan University 252-398-6263 _______________________________________________ MacOSX-admin mailing list MacOSX-admin@... http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-admin |

Re: Mac showing boot up codeYou may have told it to boot in verbose mode. Check the keyboard to
see if the 'v' key is sticking. On 16 Jun 2009, at 09:41:45, Susan Alston wrote: > I have just received a new iMac. When it came in with Leopard > 10.5.6 on it, > it behaved as I am used to. If you mean that you see a black screen with text scrolling up it, then you have verbose mode turned on. sudo nvram boot-args= in Terminal should turn it off. -- Of pleasures, those that occur most rarely give the most delight _______________________________________________ MacOSX-admin mailing list MacOSX-admin@... http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-admin |

Re: Mac showing boot up codeYes I think verbose must be what I am talking about. I executed this
command though, and nothing has changed. On Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 10:05 AM, LuKreme <kremels@...> wrote: > On 16-Jun-2009, at 07:41, Susan Alston wrote: > >> I have just received a new iMac. Geoff> Should you want to re-enable it for any reason, you want Geoff> sudo nvram boot-args=-v Yeah, that's actually one of the first things I do when I get new hardware. I can't stand the "silence" of the OSX boot... it doesn't tell me where it gets stuck if it does. It's also amusing to see how buggy the bootup process can be sometimes. For example, the default system name contains a single quote (John Smith's iMac), but that's not a valid mdns (Bonjour) name, so the mdns server complains about it a half dozen times during bootup. You'd think one complaint would be enough, but also realize that these messages are really never seen by *anyone*. -- Randal L. The usual solution to this is to go to the Startup Disk control panel and choose your startup disk. It seems that on newer computers when the EFI system has to guess the startup disk (which it is relatively good at) that it sets the verbose mode. -- Karl Kuehn larkost@... _______________________________________________ MacOSX-admin mailing list MacOSX-admin@... http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-admin |
