CALL FOR ORGANIZATION PROPOSALS

The International Community in Grammatical Inference (ICGI) invites
proposals for the organization of its 2008 event.

ICGI-2008 will be the ninth in a series of successful biennial
international conferences in the area of grammatical inference.

The purpose of this call is to invite groups interested in hosting
the conference to submit proposals.

Proposal submission: groups interested in organizing ICGI 2008 should

The Artificial Intelligence Center at SRI International announces

highly qualified and motivated computer scientists to participate
in the development and application of machine learning techniques
to the area of instructible computers. This job will involve a
mixture of research-related activities, implementation, and testing
in collaboration with world-leading researchers in machine learning.

Position 1:
The ideal candidate will have a broad understanding of machine learning
techniques along with their implementation. In particular we are looking
for a candidate with experience in statistical relational learning
and/or reinforcement learning techniques. In addition to having a strong
background in machine learning, a demonstrated ability to work within a
group on large projects is desired. Experience with Linux and Java are a
plus.

Position 2:
The ideal candidate will have a broad understanding of machine learning
techniques along with their implementation. In particular we are looking
for a candidate with experience in Markov Logic Networks, Inductive
Logic Programming and/or other symbolic learning techniques. In addition
to having a strong background in machine learning, a demonstrated
ability to work within a group on large projects is desired. Experience
with Linux, Java and Prolog are a plus.

team that is involved in international research on machine learning

the research fellowship prize program in honor of the celebration
of Kurt Goedel's 100th birthday.

The research fellowship prize program is sponsored by the John Templeton
Foundation and will offer:

- 2 Ph.D. (pre-doctoral) fellowships of $60,000 US per annum for 2 years
- 2 postdoctoral fellowships of $80,000 US per annum for 2 years
- 1 senior fellowship of $120,000 US per annum for 1 year

These will be based on an international open competition, resulting in

Postdoc: FMRI DECODING OF CONSCIOUS AND UNCONSCIOUS PROCESSING
2 Postdoctoral positions available at the
Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience Berlin

Two full-time postdoctoral positions are available from now for a
period of 3 years in the group of Prof. John-Dylan Haynes at the
Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience Berlin. Research
focuses on functional brain imaging of conscious and unconscious human
cognitive processing in the domains of perception, attention and
executive control. A variety of methods are used including behavioural
and psychophysical measurements, functional magnetic resonance imaging
(fMRI), and EEG/MEG recordings in humans. Further information on our
research can be found on our website (http://www.cbs.mpg.de/~haynes).
The specific projects will build on previous work using multivariate
pattern recognition applied to human brain responses to decode
conscious and unconscious processing in various cognitive domains.
Experience in cognitive neuroscience and neuroimaging and familiarity
with neuroimaging analysis platforms (such as SPM or BrainVoyager) are
desirable, as well as mathematical and scripting skills (especially
MATLAB). The positions require a PhD in a relevant field, such as
neuroscience, cognitive science, cognitive psychology or computer
science/mathematics. The successful candidate will play a key role in
designing, conducting and analysing experiments and will work as part
of a multi-disciplinary research team. The position offers excellent
training in advanced aspects of neuroimaging (such as cortical
flattening, retinotopic mapping, connectivity analysis, multivariate
decoding, information-based brain mapping).
