* Magnolia launched a new content management solution for the broadcast
media: Magnolia On Air finally meets the broadcast media's need to
capture, repurpose and rapidly publish content on the web. Seamless
production workflow significantly cuts costs, gets rich media
content to
the web first and invites community participation.

* Magnolia 4.0 will be available by the end of January 2009. It will
ship
with the following new features: Supersonic Templating, Standard
Templating Kit, new form module, new mail module, and more.

* Magnolia joined the OASIS CMIS Technical Committee. CMIS stands for
Content Management Interoperability Services.

* Come and visit us at the congress Open Source Meets Business (OSMB).
It
will take place in Nuremberg, Germany, January 27-29, 2009. Magnolia
will exhibit there and visitors will be walked through a preview of
Magnolia 4.0. Furthermore, Gilles Ducret will talk about how Lloyds
TSB
International Private Banking uses Magnolia.

* Magnolia exhibited at Gilbane Boston Conference from December 3rd to
4th
and reaction has been extremely positive.

* Magnolia just celebrated its 5th anniversary, and the future looks
bright: At Magnolia, we have every reason to believe that 2009 will
be even more successful for us – not despite, but because of the
economic downturn.

* Magnolia has been chosen by JBoss.org as the platform to support its

website infrastructure. JBoss.org provides a home for the
development of
Java Middleware in open source by an open community, hosting over 40
different projects. We have a video interview with Mark up on our
website, where he provides details on why JBoss.org chose Magnolia.

* Unfortunately, a domain scammer had tricked us out of magnolia.info.
Our
website was not available for 5 days and we were not reachable via
email. We acted quickly and moved our site and email addresses to
magnolia-cms.com which is now our new official domain.

* There is exciting news from the Magnolia labs: Vivian Steller
provides a
sneak preview of GenUIne, the new graphical user interface that will
ship with Magnolia 4.

* Fast cars and fast content management go well together, shows the

* Last but not least, Boris Kraft, our CTO, has been interviewed by

Magnolia 3.5.9 released

Magnolia 3.5.9 has been released (Community and Enterprise
Edition). This is a bug fix release.

We generally recommend that all 3.x installations be updated
to the latest version of Magnolia 3.6 since 3.6 is
considerably faster and improved compared to previous
versions. However, if you must stay on the 3.5 branch, we
recommend you update to 3.5.9.

We expect no further updates for the 3.5 branch and expect
to release Magnolia 3.6.2 later this month.

Magnolia 3.6 is out: It is up to ten times faster and ships
with high-end Enterprise Content Management features such as
a transaction-safe publishing in a granular staging
environment, a re-written cache system and an enhanced
backup tool that keeps content re-visions.

We also re-launched our website, published various blogs,
started the newsletter series - just to keep our community
better informed.

MAGNOLIA VERSION 3.6 TEN TIMES FASTER AND INCLUDES NEW
ENTERPRISE FEATURES

Magnolia International Limited has today announced the
immediate availability of Magnolia 3.6, a new release of its
simple to use Open Source content management system. The new
version is up to ten times faster and includes enterprise
grade features for dramatically improved back-up, caching
and publishing of content items across multiple Magnolia
sites.

Basel, Switzerland and New York, NY, USA – July 30, 2007

Performance enhancements have been focused on improving the
system for end-users, making Magnolia 3.6 ten times faster
when importing and activating content, formatting and
creating paragraphs, managing revision and more.

The new caching system in this latest release offers
incredibly refined, granular control of caching and cache
clearing (flushing). This enables administrators to create
customized, strategic caching solutions which are optimized
to meet the load patterns of a specific website and to
ensure high availability of every single content element.

Magnolia 3.6 also offers an updated staging mechanism that
ensures continuity of content in larger, multi-site
implementations. The Transactional Activation Functionality
guarantees a successful transfer of content items or changes
authored in one Magnolia site (usually a staging or
authoring site) and then published to multiple public
Magnolia sites or 'subscribers'. This ensures that content
items and changes created on the authoring server reach all
remote Magnolia sites. Alternatively, if there is a
technical problem in publishing to one of the subscribers,
the content is not published by any subscriber until the
issue has been resolved. This removes the common problem in
many multi-site CMS setups, where intermittent technical or
network errors during the publishing process can, over time,
cause subscriber sites to get out of sync in their display
of what should be identical content.

Backup has also been refined in this latest version of
Magnolia, allowing administrators to roll-back through
previous edits of a content item. This new backup feature
offers a particularly helpful tool for corporate users
looking to migrate sites from one Magnolia instance to
another.

"Our latest release, Magnolia 3.6, eases maintenance, boosts
performance and strengthens the robustness of our open
source CMS in production environments", says Magnolia CTO
Boris Kraft. "All the new enhancements are the results of
individual solutions we already implemented for our
enterprise customers. Hence, they are of proven quality and

Magnolia proudly announces the immediate availability of
the a release candidate for Magnolia 3.6. This release
is feature complete. No further features are planned for the
final release. If this release passes acceptance tests,
it will constitute the first final release in the 3.6
series.

Magnolia 3.6 makes Magnolia faster and more robust. It
introduces considerable performance enhancements,
transactional activation, a new cache API and a new backup
tool that allows to migrate version information.

One of the most celebrated features is the significant
reduction of Magnolia's memory footprint. As reported on the
user-list, two Magnolia instances can now run with a total
memory consumption below 100 MB. This allows to host smaller
Magnolia sites at a very low price point, and will lower the
barrier of entry for many community-edition users.

This is not a production release. The goal of this release
is to gather feedback from the community and provide a stable
basis for quality assessment.

Changes made in the way we version and activate content
could be quite sensitive and we encourage you to test this
release and provide feedback.

memory-issues experienced by some users, which have been
back-ported from the upcoming Magnolia 3.6 release to make
sure our current 3.5 install-base can benefit from
this work.

In addition, various other bug-fixes found their way into
this release. Sitedesigner(TM) has been updated to version
1.1.6 and the Data Module has been updated to version 1.1.1.

availability of Magnolia Enterprise Edition 3.5.

The new Magnolia 3.5 Enterprise Edition sets its focus on
I18N, new integration options and ease-of-maintenance -
features paramount for large-scale, international

INTERNATIONALIZATION

The new internationalization (I18N) architecture allows
content to be maintained and published in multiple languages
within a single structure. In typical Magnolia fashion, the
feature has been added at the core level with a simple
default implementation, and can be extended and customized
to suit specific needs.

In combination with Magnolia's powerful workflow engine,
custom translation work-flows can be defined to keep
multi-language-content in sync.

INTEGRATION

Magnolia has been streamlined to make integration with
existing frameworks and applications much easier.

This allows existing applications to write output to
Magnolia or validate input that stems from Magnolia, while
having access to the full set of Magnolia prepared data.

For instance, Adobe® ColdFusion®, Apache Wicket or
Freemarker have been used to publish content through

EASE-OF-MAINTENANCE

Magnolia has been completely modularized, and a new update
mechanism has been developed that makes updates powerful and
painless. Custom developments typically found in large-scale
Magnolia projects easily benefit from this service.
Customizations can now reside in modules, which can be
updated independently of Magnolia.

At the same time this architecture allows Magnolia to
release functionality in smaller modules and provide updates
to these more often.

Other features in this category include a completely new
configuration mechanism that allows easy customization of

Magnolia 3.5 CE final released

Magnolia has just released the final version of it's first
major update since more than a year - Magnolia 3.5 Community
Edition.

This release sees significant development "under the hood".
The GUI has seen nearly no changes, which makes the upgrade
painless for end-users and recommended for administratiors.

Here is an overview of the changes:

Update / Install
-----------------------------------------------
We added a new installation and updating GUI. The main
feature is the update mechanism, which allows seamless
updates from 3.0.5 to the new and any future versions. The
same mechanism is used for the modules, so custom projects
will highly benefit from that feature, as you can easily
deploy new versions of your custom project/module on the
live servers.

I18N
-----------------------------------------------
We added a basic mechanism for i18n content if you want a
1:1 structure for all the languages and not completely
separated hierarchies. Custom implementations are now
pluggable and we will improve that feature for the next
versions.

Beans for Configuration
-----------------------------------------------
Many parts of the code now use a configuration-to-beans
transformation which allows easy customizations of the many
parts of Magnolia. For example you can reconfigure the
implementation class of the user manager. All properties are
then populated by the configuration (supporting child-beans,
lists, maps). All that is combined with observation and
automates component reloading upon modifications.

Filters
-----------------------------------------------
We separated the modules and designed them in a way that
multiple security and cache filters can coexist. All filters
can be bypassed which allows implementing sophisticated
custom solutions. As the filters are using the new
configured beans feature, you can for instance implement
complex virtual uri mappings.

Security
-----------------------------------------------
We added the concept of URL protection so URLs can now be
protected independently of the website content. We improved
the concept of supporting the anonymous role and context. We
also added the concept of user realms which allowes us to
create a public user registration module (to be released
soon)

Easier integration with other frameworks
-----------------------------------------------
We removed many obstacles regarding the integration of
Magnolia and other frameworks. For example, the web.xml
file has been drastically simplified, and now contains only
two entries: a filter and a context listener. We also
enabled the support for on-forward filter dispatching. This
allows using another framework that forwards/dispatches to a
Magnolia url. (Whatever you pass as request attribute is
then available in the template). To increase the flexibility
we also added paragraph renderers, allowing special
paragraph implementations. (We now have experimental support
for freemarker-based paragraph rendering and a prototype for
cold-fusion rendering)

Activation flexibility
-----------------------------------------------
Not only is the multiple subscribers feature now available
in the CE edition, we also added support for a more flexible
from/to mapping of activation. The structure of the content
in the subscriber does not need to be a mirror of the
authoring environment anymore.

Jackrabbit
-----------------------------------------------
This is actually not our merit but Magnolia 3.5 is delivered
with jackrabbit 1.3, which is much more stable, flexible and
faster than the version delivered with Magnolia 3.0.

Foremost, we would like you to commemorate Magnolia's fourth
birthday with a major new release - Magnolia Community
Edition v3.5 RC1 - available for immediate download.

About 300 issues as documented in jira have been worked on
for this release. We choose to significantly improve the
foundation on which we build the future of Magnolia, which
makes this quite a technology-focused release.

Here are some informal notes regarding this new release. As
the version tag RC1 suggests, it is a feature-final release.
Nevertheless we like to note that we re-factored one of
Magnolia's main parts in the last two weeks, and bugs can
turn up. It is therefore (as for any pre-releases) strongly
suggested not to use this release in production.

We'll try to make the wait a short one. We plan to release
the Magnolia Enterprise Edition RC1 within the next week and
expect final releases on November 29th, provided we don't
hit any roadblocks.

In the next two weeks we will also work intensively on the
documentation and the sample content which is still the one
of the 3.0 version.

And now some words about the most important changes:

Magnolia International Ltd., creator of the open-source
Enterprise Content Management System Magnolia, today
announced the transition of its Magnolia Community Edition
to GPLv3.

GPLv3 is the latest version of the world's most popular
open-source license, which has been released in June this
year by the Free Software Foundation.

Magnolia is the first JSR-170-based Content Management
System released under the GNU Public License Version 3
(GPLv3), and one of the first mainstream applications to
embrace the new license.

Releasing the Magnolia Community Edition under the

WebSphere-compatible Magnolia 3.0.2 released
-----------------------------------------------

Magnolia International Ltd. has released version 3.0.2 of
its JSR-170-based open-source Enterprise Content Management
System (ECM).

This update introduces WebSphere compatibility for the
Magnolia Enterprise Edition. The WebSphere application
server is part of the strategic infrastructure of many
enterprises. With Magnolia, an easy-to-use, powerful,
modern, standards-based content management system (CMS) is
finally available for the WebSphere platform. Magnolia is
based on the JSR-170 standard, which is officially backed by
IBM. This makes Magnolia a natural choice for WebSphere
clients looking for alternatives to IBM's native CMS
solutions.

Additionally, Magnolia 3.0.2 fixes a number of issues and
introduces several improvements. It is a recommended update
for all Magnolia users.

Experienced Software Developer (Java, Web technologies, GUI)

You will develop new Magnolia modules. You should have several years
of experience with Java and Web technologies like html, css,
JavaScript etc. It would be great if you have done user interface
work before, and if you understand the value of simplicity.

This is an opportunity to shape the things to come, to be part of the
Magnolia development team and be involved in the process of creating
the next generation of content management.

All of our developers are also providing support to our clients.

At Magnolia International you will:

- work in a small team of highly motivated peers
- use state-of-the-art development tools like jira, SVN, maven2,
clover, fisheye etc.
- get exposure to the Java and Open Source communities

- experience with development of web-based applications
- degree in Computer Science or related
- ability to speak English fluently (German a plus)
