Mandala-Designer for tuxpaint ?

Hi everybody,
I have got three little girls and they all love tuxpaint. They also
love mandalas. I searched for free mandala-software but all i could find
was a tutorial for creating mandalas with the gimp, but it is not
manageable
for my girls. So i thought of tuxpaint and if it is possible to add a
small and easy
mandala-feature in there. To keep it easy i thought of something like this:
The centre of the page is the centre of the mandala. The kids can choose a
motive,
the size of the motive and finally the diameter of the circle on which the
motive is placed.
After drawing a couple of motive-circles they should get a nice mandala.
What do you think about this idea? Would it fit into tuxpaint? Any tips?
Any other
suggestions?

Bianca

The easiest thing to do would be to make a starter image that someone could colour in. Obviously this would be static.

The tool could be made as a magic tool but someone would need to program it!

Interesting... in the meantime, a poorly replacement may be the "Rosace"
magic tool.

I want my children to create their own mandalas, so starter images aren't
the
right thing. I also don't believe that i can implement it as a magic tool.
I don't know how the kids should select a motive with mandala as a magic
tool ?!

I didn't know "Rosace", just installed version 0.9.21 of tuxpaint and there
are some really nice new features.

I will try to start implementing a mandala-feature, further tipps or
ideas for the implementation are welcome. :)

Could you break down how you want it to work?

What are the motives? How many would you want them to choose from?
These would be line art in the centre of the mandala?

You'd then want shapes around the centre - like triangles, a lotus or
similar?

Thanks

You can reserve and paint a portion of the canvas with your custom menu
at switchin, then clean it at switchout. This has the advantage that you
don't have to deal whith the main tuxpaint code, and the disavantage
that each click on this menu will be recorded in the undo machinery.
This behaviour is not implemented in any magic tool coming with the main
tuxpaint, but in "external" magic tools like drawtext or music.

http://tuxpaint.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/tuxpaint/music-magic/

Else you can add it as a new regular tool.

The very first is to get used with cvs in order to get the lastest
development sources.

Good luck

One thing I would like to do is improve out stamp handling by making
defined sets that you could install separately, maybe through tuxpaint-
config.

We don't have many religious stamps, just a few secular holiday things
like Christmas trees. However as an add in I'd be quite interested in
making a Buddhist set. This could feature stamps of objects, statues
etc as well as maybe a mandala or two to colour in, or other starters
like a drawing of the Buddha.

We could do similar for other faith groups as desired. Want a Shiva,
or more Jewish stuff, or a nativity? All optional I reckon but might
be useful.

Before you encourage more religious stuff for kids...

Um, how about some early hominid stamps instead?
