Seems to me that initrd has some knowledge of partitions that existed when initrd was created. I'm guessing that the UUID of the encrypted swap gets changed on every boot and that conflicts with what initrd expects.<br>
<br>If anyone knows, I'd be interested in the how/why this works.<br><br>My problem was solved by:<br><br>1. delete the swap partition & reboot<br>2. run mkinitrd<br>3. recreate a swap partition.<br>4. add an fstab entry:<br>
/dev/mapper/cswap none swap sw 0 0<br>5. add an /etc/crypttab entry:<br>cswap /dev/swpart /dev/urandom cipher=aes-cbc-essiv:sha256,size=256,swap<br>6. As I don't suspend to disk, I removed the resume entry from /boot/grub/menu.lst<br>
7. reboot.<br><br>Seems to do the trick. No message. A couple of flashes later I'm back at the logon screen.<br><br>By pure chance, I found that I could logon if I selected iceWM rather than kde4.<br><br>Looking in /ver/log/syslog I see: "kdm X Server for display :0 terminated unexpectedly."<br>
<br>I can find no other clues.<br><br>I tried using XFdrake to change some parameters, logging out and retrying KDE, but always with the same result (kdm crash).<br><br>The XFdrake showed that my original settings were:<br>
<br>S3UniChrome-base cards with 3D support<br>1024x768 @ 60Hz<br>1024x768 24bpp<br><br>Not to be put off, I did a 'live install' from iceWM. <br>Once the install was complete and I was able to boot from my hard drive, I was faced with the same problem.<br>
Buuut, I was then able to use XFdrake to change the parameters (to 1280x1024), logged out and was then able to logon using KDE4.<br><br>I have no idea what is going on here, but I'm past it.<br>Hopefully this post may give a clue to anyone else who gets stuck with this problem when trying to install.<br>

I also tested the CD on another machine that had an internal CD drive.<br>That worked fine. So the problem is not the CD itself.<br><br>Given that:<br>a) the laptop/CD drive/USB-IDE/adapter worked well with different boot CDs (including 2009.1 One - just tried that); and <br>
b) the 2010 One CD works on another machine<br>It seems to me that the problem lies in the software on the 2010 One CD.<br>This was not an issue with 2009.<br><br>Anyone had success booting the 2010 One CD from a USB drive?<div>

- I installed 2 previous versions of Mandriva on this laptop using the same method/adapter/CD drive.<br>- I just booted a SLAX (<a href="http://www.slax.org" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">www.slax.org</a>) cd on this same setup with no issues.<br>

</div>I put 2010 on a second boot partition on my Phenom II box. The install
<br>went perfectly. I'm using ext3 filesystems BTW. Got wireless working.

<br>go. Compiler errors about multiple typedefs and multiple defs. Oh
