Manual licensing, againHi all. There are more files with questionable licensing status :(.
examples/01hpschd.sf2 seems to be for free distribution only (which would make it incompatible with the GFDL, since no restrictions can be added). examples/22bassoon.sf2 allows free redistribution, but doesn't mention modifications (if they are not allowed, it would conflict with the GFDL). opcodes/py{init,eval,assign}.xml still have the All rights reserved by Maurizio Umberto Puxeddu notice. Has anybody been able to contact him? Re: Manual licensing, againI had emailed briefly with Maurizio a couple years ago, though haven't
heard of any news since. He was well at the time. Once again, "All rights reserved" has no legal meaning anymore and is not incompatible with any free/open license. Please see this page for an explanation: <http://homepages.tesco.net/J.deBoynePollard/FGA/law-copyright-all-rights-re served.html> Even if the phrase did have some legal force, it would only apply to people who do not have a valid license granting them further rights. In the world of free software and open content, everyone can obtain a license granting some of the rights normally "reserved" by the copyright holder. Thus "All rights reserved" would at best only apply to persons whose license has been revoked because they violated its provisions. I am pretty sure that Andres was confusing Maurizio with another member of our community who passed away (Gerard van Dongen). Last time we discussed this, you yourself said that apparently nobody cleared Maurizio's permission to license the manual as GFDL... Re: Manual licensing, againI worked on the licensing and re-licensing of Csound personally.
Not sure what you are saying, but with Barry Vercoe by my side, we arranged with the Lawyers at MIT to change the license for Csound to LGPL and the manual license to GFDL. Dr. B. Sorry, I was responding to the idea that the "All rights reserved" is the problem. I think that I suggested the possible absence of permission. Maurizio's Python opcodes and their docs passed through Gabriel's CsoundAV before being added by (I believe) Michael Gogins to Csound 5. Gab, Mike, or John would probably be better able to say whether permission was obtained. Re: Manual licensing, againI meant the documentation for the opcodes he wrote. This is after the
relicensing of MIT.
