Dear all,

I'm new in pelcan. I want to install matlab and use it in cluster environment. but I have some problems.

first; I couldn't install matlab. It needs lixp.so.6 for installation and I didn't find it.

second: How can I install matlab on pelican and using it in clustered environment.

if anyone tested this solution, please inform me.

regards

To make a customized version of PelicanHPC (in order to add the library MATLAB requires) you need to use the make_pelican script. To install MATLAB, sorry, I don't know how that works. MATLAB is proprietary software, with a procedure for controlling whether or not a license is held. Installing it on PelicanHPC would be a little complicated, I imagine. I recommend trying GNU Octave, which is already installed. It is very similar to MATLAB, AND it comes with the GPL. What could be better?! To use MATLAB on a cluster, I think that you would need a license for each node (maybe not if it's installed into /home/user, but the licensing may prevent a copy installed there from running on all the nodes). That would quickly get very expensive.

I am agree with Michael. I found out that most of previous matlab script can be run on octave. Recommendation, install octave-io. I found it to be very usefull when you are using a lot of texread() function

Who needs MATLAB?  My boss was looking into getting MATLAB into my classroom and found it astronomically expensive.  I think it was something like US$200 per PC + SymbolicToolBox was another US$100 per PC and DistributedToolBox another US$100!  And that's a lease!  You have to renew the license every year!  I have 25 PCs, you do the math....

I showed pelicanHPC to my boss and she almost cried.

BTW, there's a good deal from Mathematica.  Schools and teachers can get is for $49 per core but this is also a lease and does not include any add on packages!
