McGill Open Source Mirror

Hi everyone (everyone who is left that is!),

Just wanted to let you know that I am setting up a new Open Source
software mirror for the McGill campus.

Space is very limited right now, so I am only hosting what I absolutely
need at the moment.  The second week of November, I should be able to
attach an 1.5 TB of storage to the machine, at which point I will start
adding more software.

So please, check it out (especially if you use Ubuntu or Debian), and
get back to me if there are any packages that you would like to see
added when I get the extra storage.

The URL is http://mirror.ncs.mcgill.ca/

Hi,

That's great news!  I had been wondering why my closest Debian mirror
is University of Sherbrooke instead of McGill! :)

cheers,
Steve

Good stuff -- I'm glad to see that there's finally something to
replace the defunct mirror on open.mcgill.ca.

Awaiting impatiently when Fedora is available. :)

Cheers,

Coolness Chris, this has been a long time coming!
Nevermind the Fedora repo, no sane person would use that stuff anyway <grins>.

I never did understand how some people could prefer RHEL and Fedora to
Debian...  But apparently there are some crazy people here at NCS who
use it.  What are the odds?

Aside from Fedora, here is what I am also considering (space permitting):

* Debian Backports
* Debian Multimedia
* EPEL (Fedora)
* Blastwave

and as mentioned on the website:

* OpenOffice
* Firefox, Thunderbird and gang

Anything else?  Does anyone want CPAN?

Yah-yah... :)
It's called "market share."

I'd like to see an EPEL mirror, if only because it's fairly widely
used in a number of IT departments (along with those much-maligned
RHEL installations :)).

Now you're talking about crazy people. :)

For what it's worth, I'm also someone who prefers Debian/Ubuntu, but
on my work computer I have been using Fedora 11, and I have to say
it's 100x better than it used to be.  yum doesn't even seem to be slow
anymore!
