Another challenge for all you gurus out there.  I need to get hold of a
steering arm/track rod (not a track rod end) for my Westfield quick
rack (2.1 turns lock to lock).  The car has failed its MOT on the inner
rack ball joint.  I believe the rack is Escort mkII but garage cannot
confirm that.

Does anyone know the provenance of such a rack?

Cheers for now,

I think I have what you need, assuming it's a Mk II Escort rack. I  have two
brand new steering arms taken off a new rack (I use a different  steering arm
arrangement on the Pulsar). Just check it's a metric thread (MK I  racks have
a UNF thread). You can reach me on 0782 505 7363

If it's just a matter of a bit of play, you may be able to solve the issue by simply tightening it up.  The ball of the track rod is held onto the rack by a "cup" that screws on, and IIRC is pressed into the cup by a sprung shim, which the Escort Haynes manual shows you how to shim or adjust.  It has been a while since I had to refurb an escort rack though so I may be mistaken.
