Message resize behavior horribly broken

I checked the archives and saw that this is apparently intended behavior.
Will the next release please make this an option?  I had to downgrade back
to 2.3.1.  It might work for some people, but this is something I think
needs to be a choice.  It very much seems like a theme choice to me, not a
forced behavior across the board.
