Mic input or line-level input?

I have a MacBook, 3 years old, white plastic. It has a headphone  
output jack on the LHS, and next to it some kinda audio input jack,  
either a microphone input or a line-level input, I can't tell which.  
I've googled quite a bit but can't find any definitive source, such as  
Apple, detailing this port. Does nyone know if this port is a mic  
input or line-level input? I'm hoping it is a line-in, but if it is a  
mic input, does it supply plug-in-power?

most mac inputs are line-level which is why you have to buy adapters  
for normal PC mics or use USB ones.   I would bet that is the case for  
the Macbook as well
