Use winetricks to install .NET 2.0.  The application will not install to native Wine if you attempt to do it any other way.

This is the SECOND TIME you have been told this.

@James,

Sorru I have misworded my response...

I AM USING WINETRICKS!

I selected 1.1, 2.0, 2.0 SP and 3.0.

1.1 and 2.0 installed fine.

2.0 SP crashed and killed wine.

I mean it killed wine... I get that same error message with ANY software I tried to install afterwards.

This was not stated and we cannot assume what you are doing.  Bad Business Practice!  :)

This may be a known problem.  I have not attempted to install SP1 for .NET 2.0.  I remember the presence of a Bug report for this.

Sorry to say, but you will have to start over again with a clean .wine directory (hopefully you were using a different 'bottle' or WINEPREFIX.)  I always do the following (in a terminal session) when testing new software:
$ export WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine_test
wine notepad
winetricks dotnet2.0
Install other software for testing.

Have you started with a clean WINEPREFIX? (see below)

Fix it by cleaning / renaming your WINEPREFIX. (read the warnings)

Try cleaning out your WINEPREFIX, installing *just the necessary version*.

What I did was I uninstalled wine.

Remove my home/.wine folders.

Reinstalled wine.

Redownloaded winetricks

Ran winetrick and installede ONLY dotnet1.1.

That ran fine.

Then I using winetricks again and skipped 2.0 and ran 3.0.

This actually installed 2.0 and then 3.0 afterwards.

My app installed, but didn;t load correctly.

So then I downloaded the latest version of the app and will try that once .NET 3.5 is installed.

To Be Continued...

Hey everyone,

OK, Paint.NET 3.36 and 3.5 don't load correctly.

While installing 3.5, the installer quite.

And I can ring up Paint.NET 3.36... however all I see is the canvas.... nothing else... literally. I can draw on the canvas... but the menu is gone, the windows are missing and no buttons are visible.

Any ideas?

Also, has one any tried to get mono-paint working?

Thank you and God bless,
Johnathan

I'm going to ask the obvious here, are you trying to install .NET 3.5?
You need to visit the Applications Database and follow the how-to there
to get .NET 3.5 to install.

OK, sorry again, let me be more clear...

Paint.NET 3.36 installed. But when you load it... all you get is a window with a canvas, in which you can draw on... but no menus or buttons.

With that... .NET 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0 installed without issue.

Now when I started on Paint.NET 3.5 the isntall for .NET 3.5 SP1 simply wnet away after like an hour of waiting for it to install.... taht was it it didn;t finish and i disappeared. After that, then I tried to load Paint.NET i got an error.

Since then I have uninstalled wine with the intent of trying again. I will use that .NET 3.5 installation howto and report what I find.

Thank you James,
Johnathan
