Microsoft Dynamics vs Drupal

Hi all,

We’re working with a client whose management have decided that moving
toward a Microsoft Dynamics CRM solution may be better than doing
their CRM in a custom Drupal environment. I have no experience or
knowledge (nor interest in) Microsoft Dynamics, so would be keen to
hear the combined knowledge of this group regarding how it might
compare with a bespoke Drupal solution.

Obviously I have a vested interest in Drupal being the better
solution, but don’t want to be ignorant, so if anyone can share their
thoughts on the pros and cons of each platform, that would be very
interesting to us. Please bear in mind that (together with the client)
we are entirely capable of developing a very customised solution, so
we’re not talking about a simplistic install of Drupal with a few
contrib modules, but rather leveraging Drupal as a framework enabling
us to more rapidly develop a customised solution tailored specifically
to their business requirements.

Thanks,
Jeff

Well, you might wander in with a Sidekick open, muttering ...

Suggest Drupal + Salesforce CRM integration (see salesforce module).

Drupal is a content management system. If they want a CRM I will
suggest go for sugarCRm or Sugar + drupal.

Or stick with an opensource CRM at least - check out vTiger 5.1 improved api's...

Considering that most features in a CRM are commoditized these days, aside from a specific feature - why is your client wanting to use Dynamics?

Some parts of this message have been removed. Learn more about Nabble's security policy.

I agree with Victor, most of our clients are Salesforce clients and we integrate with Drupal.  Its great.

Remember, Drupal has users but isn’t a CRM so comparing the two isn’t fair.  MS Dynamics will lose on the content and community side and Drupal will lose on the CRM side.

The right solution will depend on the business need.

Jeff,

I don't know about Dynamics, but ...

I set up a custom CRM in a Drupal environment, mostly using Views and CCK, but wouldn't do it again.  I now work with CiviCRM/Drupal as the CRM solution.

One of the weakest part, IMO, of using Drupal alone as a CRM is the lack of good mass email ability -- for large lists .  In my Drupal CRM solutions I did a lot of custom work integrating phplist, but it was not nearly as good as CiviMail's ability to do target mass mailings based on all kinds of criteria.

Another reason I wouldn't do CRM with Drupal alone --again -- is that Views is just too hard, for most users,  as a means to build custom queries and reports,  so they either need a real techie on staff or a lot of money to pay for support. (not that salesforce or civicrm are really simple for custom queries, but easier than Drupal is )

Thanks
Sam
