Migration to a newer version

What are the steps to migrate from my current version (1.2.2) to 1.3.4?

Is it as simple as copying the database?

Just confirming that I will still have to import/export DB as given in
the upgrade process
(http://continuum.apache.org/docs/1.3.4/installation/upgrade.html)? Or
is this not required?
