Sorry for taking so long to get this out. I have had both my linux and
windows machines re-installed since the last release (a year ago!), and
lost some of my install scripts. I re-wrote them, except for the linux
rpm script. Also did not include the linux compiled package. This
would likely not be that useful, as I think, because of a shared libc
file, it would not run on older linux boxes anyway. If anyone really
wants the rpm and/or linux compiled packages, let me know and maybe we
can reserect those.

This release is from the 2.104 branch, so should be stable (lots of folk
running on that code). It does not include the recent Insteon changes
that Gregg has been working on in the main branch, as well as Howard's
recent organizer changes. Now that I have the install scripts
re-done and am better settled here in New York, I should be able to more
easily and more quickly do the next release as needed.

I doubt anyone will want to read this in detail, but for completeness,
SVN change log is attached. 231 changes in the last year, a bit over 4
per week.

I noticed that sometime since 2.100 was released the end curly bracket
for the BEGIN statement was moved up to the end of last line with text
instead of on a line by itself. Moving the bracket back to a line by
itself fix the error on what I run, perl 5.8.8 on Linux/Ubuntu. There is
a comment on that line about making perl2exe happy. Maybe that change
was required for perl2exe? Not sure. 2. I use the swift TTS engine which
was not released back when I wrote vv_tts a long time ago. Added swift
as an -engine option along side theta. Also changed the debug line
noting the engine used. 3. Change some minor cosmetics and my email address.

Hey all,

Long time reader, first time poster… blah, blah, blah. = )

I have recently gotten around to get MH up and running on my Server 2003 box and everything is going great! Setup was simple and uptime is proving to be a non-issue. It's really quite amazing!

As I wait for my newly purchased X10 items, I've begun snooping around in the code of MH. I'm a self taught programmer (basic, VB, C++) but have never dabbled in Perl and I am, by far, not an expert. The code looks pretty straight forward so I've decided I want to do some customizing. I'm implementing a new weather command to get, parse, and say the weather forecast discussion as well as the current conditions and the forecast. (I'm a weather nut and like listening the bi-daily forecast discussion). That's going well; however, my next project is a little harder for me.

I'm using VR and TTS and both are working amazingly well. It accepts the VR from across the kitchen, even using the cheap mic built into my server monitor. However, there's no way for me to know when the computer is listening to me… I'd like to play a wav file. I'd like to leave the MS VR engine sitting in "listening" mode. I don't want the MS engine worrying about switching back and forth from listening and not listening so I'll just leave it in listening mode and I am going to have MH handle that. My idea is to leave MH in MH's "not listening" mode all the time. Then I'd like to speak a command, let's say "Computer" for all the Trek geeks, and then I'd like to have MH play a little wav file and go into listening mode for 3 seconds, and then default back to "not listening".

After looking through the code, I came across the actual start/stop listening code in the mh_control.pl. Would it be best to simply alter the code there, change the voice trigger from "[Start, Stop] listening" to "Computer" and modify the remaining code in this block:

- Updated code/common/internet_mail.pl to allow for reading of local
mail files. For example, if using Thunderbird, install Thunderbird 'Tb
autosave extention' from http://www.supportware.net/mozilla/#ext13 then
set the mh.ini parm net_mail_save_dir to point to the save directory.
This has the advantage over get_email of ignoring spam that you have
filtered out of your inbox.

- David Mark implemented the repeat command and the &mp3_radio_play sub
in code/common/mp3_winamp.pl.

- David Norwood updated mh/lib/site/ControlX10/CM11.pm to fix write
retries which has been broken the past few releases. He also-wrote the
send subroutine without goto's, so it should be clearer and easier to
maintain.

- David Mark fixed write_mh_opts to look for mh/bin/mh.private.ini, not
mh/mh.private.ini, if mh_parms is not set.

- Gregg Liming xAP/xPL code processing to not drop sockets due to EINTR
(system interrupt) calls. He also added ability to override default
broadcast on xAP/xPL data transmitions to ones defined by
ipaddress_xap_broadcast and ipaddress_xpl_broadcast (useful in
multi-NIC/VLAN environments).

- Rick Steeves added RF_Item to web/bin/floorplan.pl

- David Norwood added support to code/common/rss_subscriber.pl for
individual download directories for each feed.

- David Norwood fixed a bug in code/common/stocks.pl introduced two
releases ago that caused stock alerts to be announced even if the
threshold has not been exceeded.

- David Norwood modified code/common/USB_UIRT_learning.pl to change the
default repeat used for imported codes from 0 to 1.

- David Norwood updated code/common/internet_earthquakes_cal.pl to
include Matthew Williams' statutory vs nautical mile bug fix.

- Brent DeShazer added a parity option for serial ports, defaulting to none.

physical addresses, allow for timer-driven reading of dimmer state, and
added dimmer and drive (EIS 2 and 7) support in web interface.

- Steve Goldman updated web/bin/weather_rrd_update.pl to make it
compatable with rrd 1.2

- Rick Steeves fixed some bugs in code/common/*weather* code.
