I have a two-for-one by Forest, double CD, including releases Forest and Full Circle.  These releases are currently in the database, I've added the release group for the twofer.  Is there any way to duplicate the original releases so I can add the copies to the new release group, or will I have to enter everything again?

... or should there be a way to link a Release to more than one
Release Group? This is leading to Release duplication, and duplication
is BAD...

It's basically a case of
http://musicbrainz.org/doc/What_Defines_A_Unique_Release#What_about_BoxSets.3F

So, don't add any new releases or release groups. Just add
release events to those original releases.

That's, of course, assuming it's really a re-release of the original
album with one album per CD, no extra tracks etc.

from Kuno's version of the Release Groups documentation:

"2 in 1" releases should have a third release group. This applies to
all Release Types, including 2-in-1 albums and double A-side singles.
e.g. ABBA's "Waterloo / Voulez-Vous" should not be merged into
"Waterloo" or "Voulez-Vous".

I thought this meant that Peter's Forest release was to be entered
separately. I am glad if I am wrong! Could someone explain to me my
mistake? And maybe edit the documentation in order to make it more
clear?

The two in one releases being mentioned in the guideline are for releases where there are two (previously) released albums on *one* disc. If it is just a re-release of multiple albums, but all of them on their own discs, then the release (and relevant release group) should most likely *not* be duplicated, as per http://musicbrainz.org/doc/What_Defines_A_Unique_Release.

And there is a specific point in the Release Group guideline added for
this very case:

"For Box Sets <http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Box_Set> or Multi-Disc
Releases <http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Multi-Disc_Release> where each
disc has been released separately. If these individual discs have *not*
been duplicated due to the rules outlined at "What Defines A Unique
Release <http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/What_Defines_A_Unique_Release>",
they should *not* be grouped together as per the normal box set rules
noted above. "

Ok. I suggest this be specifically mentioned in the Release Group
guide. I know, this would be duplication ( ;-) ), but I believe that
if I misinterpreted this, others might too. The distinction between
Box Sets and 2 in 1 was not obvious to me. So for example something
like

"2 in 1" releases (2 previously released discs on one single new
disc) should have...

would make this perfectly clear.

I'm lost.  I'm going to cancel the new release group and forget about it for now.  I'll try and remember to come back to it when it becomes clear, if it ever does.

This isn't a release of the two original albums, it's a separate release of two CDs containing the same content.  It's in a double CD package, not separate jewel cases.  Reading the guidelines for box sets doesn't help.

Just add a one release event with your release data to each of the two
albums and you're done. No new release group, no new release. Cheers.
