I didn't select these edit types systematically, I just isolated the
ones he does and doesn't use regularly, so the stats don't mean much for
everyone else. It's pretty obvious that the first group are going to be
among the most frequent edits all in all (however RE stuff is
underrepresented for him), but I'd expect an autoeditor to know what the
other edit types do, preferably by using them. He asks questions and
seems willing to learn, but he still makes errors there. That's what I
mean by basic vs. complicated edits, and I think that he should collect
more experience with the latter.

Many of his edits are adding new data to the DB, which is of course
vital, but doesn't really need autoeditor privileges. I really miss
edits related to release events, correcting existing data (except maybe
for CSG format) and removing wrong information.

Well, it is of course each person's decision. However, in hentschelf's defense, I would point out that many of the accepted autoeditors elected in the past two years had been with MB for under a year - I recall at least a few where the account was under 6 months old.

As for KRSCuan's concerns, is it really valid to exclude "Add Artist/DiscID/PUID/Relationship/Release, Change Track Artist and Edit

Release/Track Name edits"? That's excluding 8 different edit types (and the most common 8 types of all the various edit types). While I would agree that excluding add PUID (or, for older editors, add TRM edits) seems valid, as well as add artist edits, it takes at least some degree of dedication to bother with add DiscID or (non-AZN) add AR edits. As for add release edits, the quality of those edits, esp given that the majority are classical, seems a good indicator to me, and I wouldn't exclude those. Regarding add relationship, change track artist, edit release title, and edit track title edits, those tend to only be done in any quantity by an editor who cares about data quality. All 5 of those latter types can indicate a good or... not-so-good... autoeditor candidate, even if the editor never does anything but those 5 edit types, imho.

Additionally, I'd point out that these 8 types represent the vast majority of edits within MB; just using current open edit counts, just the 5 of these edit types which are non-autoedits (add AR, add release, change track artist, edit release name, and edit track name) represent 83.5% of all open edits. If you look at the same criteria for myself, KRSCuan, and hentschelf, edits outside of these 8 types represent 20.2% (35,218/173,862 edits) for me, 35.4% (4195/11,824) for KRSCuan, and 3.8% (82/2132) for hentschelf. What the numbers and statistics don't show, however, is what types of editing is being described by those numbers. In the time it takes to enter or fix one classical release, one could easily enter or fix 20 or 30 pop releases. In hentschelf, I see an editor who is fixing classical releases, including catching typos and using CSG (any version :P) correctly. I also see an editor who has bothered to enter latin-script pseudo-releases when entering arabic-script releases, and doing other similarly complex corrections and additions to the database. I think the quality and type is just as important to consider as the quantity. :)

While I'll have to trust you on the quality of his edits – classical
releases aren't my field of interest at all – I have serious doubts
about his editing experience.

His effort to clean up the bogus collaboration between William Byrd &
Thomas Tallis
(http://musicbrainz.org/artist/c81b17d6-26ff-4362-a1cd-4aa082dd291f.html)
raised these doubts for me.
After entering edits to change the bad track attributions, he tried to
merge the artist into Byrd's entry, which would have produced a bad
alias and may have made his earlier edits fail. He also overlooked that
correcting the track attributions also affects a VA album (and its
release group), which will have all track attached to Byrd after his
other cleanup edits pass.

hentschelf currently has just below 2000 edits, but when excluding Add
Artist/DiscID/PUID/Relationship/Release, Change Track Artist and Edit
Release/Track Name edits, we arrive at only 79. Most of his edits are
concentrated on pretty basic tasks, while only few of them are doing
serious and more complicated cleanup.

I'm just not convinced that he's ready for autoeditor status yet, so
I'll have to vote against him right now.

I've been watching hentschelf's edits for some time now, and they're always good quality. He takes his time on classical releases, and has helped to clean up many that were previously rather poorly entered. Any time there's been a question on an edit, he's responded promptly, and typically has had good reasons for those edits. The one thing I was watching for was more voting on his part - his recent bursts of voting have convinced me it's the right time for him to be nominated.

I've checked with him via email, and he is willing to stand for autoeditor, therefore I've put his name forward. I think he'd be a great addition to the autoeditor team.

I have an e-mail from reosarevok with some comments to this case, he's following the conversation via web. I paste it:

Actually I don't usually use those edit notes, but there is one case when I have been using it all the time: when I want to credit a non guest vocal in Spanish hip hop (i.e. the vocals of the members of the bands). That is because in most cases this DOESN'T appear credited in the notes, they just assume that people will recognize the voice or something, I guess. The few other edits that are just "Have it here" or "listening to it now" are usually hardcore punk vinyl editions by small Spanish bands where I just can't find any tracklist online, and I either have the actual vinyl or a scan of the cover (in singles uploaded by the actual label).

99% of feats in the Spanish hip hop albums are vocal (they usually credit guest instruments along with production, not as a featuring slot). But anyway I'm indeed checking all the names that I don't know before to confirm that they are MCs and so I did with this one. As no link actually confirmed that he specifically performed vocal in THIS track, I didn't add them. I accept that there might be a really small chance that he suddenly decided to play guest guitar in the track (it has happened before to me with some guest vocalists) but then it would probably be credited as such in the back cover.

I plead guilty here. I am working with a BIG database of hip hop, so I am first trying to get all the bands ready and then I plan to get deeper into artists. I reckon though that this is indeed a confusing case, with another artist of that name existing, and I should have added it right away. Done now.

Actually I had the same doubt, so I checked the album. I saw it was a classical music album, probably with compositions of not-so-famous composers from Seville. I actually checked the album, added accents to the names that lacked them, and might also have added the ASIN (not sure about that one, might have been someone else). Maybe I should have added a comment to the artist, but as I knew almost nothing else about him than the fact that he was not the one I needed, I decided not to.

I doubt that. If "Manuel Rojas" was a classical composer, most
probably there would be a note about it here:

And, anyway, if it was like you say, I'd really like to see 2 "Manuel
Rojas" artists with distinct commentaries "classical composer" and
"hip-hop artist". "Manuel Rojas (hip-hop artist)" should have an AR

I think this is a simple "clean up" edit based on a back cover found in the web. Reosarevok has corrected and added AR's for an existing release. You have reason, he can add, probably, more info about the newly created artists... sometimes there is not a lot of info about individual members of a band, but when we are autoeditors I think we can do an extra effort ;-)

The artist "Manuel Rojas" is not the same as "Manuel Rojas 'El Pajaro'", the first one is, theorically, a "classic" composer, and the second one is a hip-hop vocalist (I can't find info about their role in the track).

Well... He really has a impressive number of edits, but I have sort of
mixed feelings for the quality of edits.

I see a lot of edit notes like "Listening to it now" in his edits.

Beside that, I see that reeosarevok starts to edit a lot of things but
does not always finish the job. For example,

in the queue and has 20000+ applied ones.
From what I've seen, he mostly edits Hispanophone and Hip-Hop artists,
but is probably active in other regions as well. I think he would be a
valuable addition for these fields.

Andrew has been editing on MusicBrainz for approximately a year and a half in which time he has racked up an impressive edit count of just under 20,000 edits. He participates in the community via the mailing list and IRC and has a strong grasp of the style guidelines. He responds when left an edit note, and is open minded when discussing edits, a trait that I feel is important when taking on the auto-editor role.

I actually sent him an email just the other day and got the below reply:

Hi, half a year ago or so some editor approached me with this, I think
it was StoneyBoh, I'm actually struggling to recall who it was. I think
I answered that I would be interested in becoming / being nominated to
become an autoeditor, however, I would not be willing to invest more

that's still my point of view today. Maybe he misunderstood my answer.
And maybe I'm misinterpreting your use of the word "furthering", too. I
think I'm already investing more time than some auto-editors do, so...
yes, I'm interested. And yes, I know what's expected from an

Sorry for my late note on this nomination. I did leave a message on IRC, but that's what I get for doing a nomination right before leaving for the weekend and then having Nabble not load for me so I couldn't leave a message until now.

I have indeed talked to Matachin before the nomination about becoming an autoeditor and let him know about the code of conduct.

I have found Matachin to be an excellent editor with a strong commitment to the project and a willingness to take on difficult edits. Also he is very reasonable to deal with and will respond to all concerns/questions, in short exactly the type of person we would like as an autoeditor.

Pablo mainly edits spanish and galician artists, i'm subscribed to his
edits a long time ago and, in fact, last March I've talked with him
around the idea of being an AutoEditor.

But my personal affaires made me to postpone the nomination, also
hoping an increased number of edits.

IMO, as spanish-spoken editor, we need more editors who may work with
the Spanish Releases, and Pablo "Matachin" is a good candidate.
