My "new" YS828, picked up AFTER the big storm...

You can see that there isn't a speck of snow on the ground, just 7 days ago there was 12" and I had to use my old tractor and plow to clear it!

So here is the YS828 I snagged, and it looks better in real life than my lousy pics. My wife didn't even groan when she saw it (unlike with most of the things I drag home).

It's all original, everything works, Runs sweet, but it does need 2 new skids and a good lubing of all pivots and cables. The yellow stuff on the control pivots is spray-grease the PO used. At least he used something!

Oh, and the carb leaks like a sieve!!

The PO gave me a carb kit from a Honda, maybe it's the same carb model? He said the bowl gasket leaks, but when I ran it, I saw gas eminating from somewhere on the TOP of the carb. Are there vents on the top? Is gas coming out of the throttle or choke shaft? I suspect a sticking float valve, but that usually causes engines to run rich and die out, doesn't it? This one seems to run fine as gas is pouring out...

As far as operation: This is my first snowblower, and while driving it around the yard and driveway, I noticed how I have to "skid" the tracks to change direction; there's no other way, right? Just kind of torque the machine to the direction you want to go? I suppose if you're clearing snow, the tracks skid pretty easily on a layer of snow.

Overall, I'm totally stoked to go thru it and dial it in for next year!!

Wow, what find! This one has a lot of life left to it.
Don't worry about steering the snowblower. You are right with your assumption; the tracks slide and move easily on the snow covered frozen driveway.
My carb leaked just the same as yours. The carbs on these 8hp blowers are prone to gumming up.  You have 9 months to get the job done.
