Hi guys and gals,

My website offers video on demand training for distance learners in
the fields of IT and cooking (more sections should appear), and it
also has a videoconference module. The site initially used http
streaming with nginx, and haxevideo for the videoconference. As you
have guessed I ported everything to Red5 recently.

The VOD part streams older flv videos created with ffmpeg, and now
newer videos are using h264 videos created by Sony Vegas inside an mp4
file (yes Henri, Red5 can stream h264 videos ;-) It runs on the latest
development version of red5. The website is in french; I am hoping to
quickly add an english section to it.

Check it out at http://www.digiprof.tv

Any feedback is greatly welcome,

What bitrate you use for your mp4?

Thanks Giusanny.

For the bitrate it depends on the action and the resolution of the
video. For the video samples, I use 768k avg and 1M max; these are
Vegas settings, so I don't know if they talk to you much.

For higher action and higher resolution, like the videos you purchase,
I go up to 2-4MB on average. I usually make tests to see what settings
yield the best quality and retain small file size.

By the way does anyone know how to feature on
http://osflash.org/red5/showcase ? Any contact info?

> Hi , Visioconference is not enable in your site :( ,
It's working, but there is nothing currently live, so you only see a
blank page. I should probably redesign this page with more info, and
add a recorded presentation of me presenting all the features so you
can see what it looks like.

> but good work anyway ( j'adore le guacamol !)
Thanks for your feedback Yann, more stuff is coming :-)

> Hi
> this is good work
Thanks you revo999 I appreciate it, and it motivates me!

> but video conference is not working
Ok, I'll definitely redesign this page.

My videoconference system doesn't work like a skype, justin or
ustream. Only authorized conferencers (who pay) can create
videoconferences and start broadcasting their own webcams, and only
registered and invited people will be able to display their own webcam
when the conferencer hands them the hand. Public guests have limited
interaction, and are not allowed to stream their webcam for obvious
security reasons (porn and stuff like that), so that's why you "feel"
it's not working. That's my fault, I should make it more obvious
what's going on.

> can you please guide me how to make Video conference in Red5 , because I
> working on it and getting no any appropriate help
Actually it's very easy to get started: you don't need any server side
code. Simply start red5, and use your own client. I was thinking about
creating a training video on red5, so this would inaugurate my english
section on the website sooner than I thought ;-)

Currently I'm working on adding more videos to the website, but one
day (next week?)  we could schedule a little mailing-list live
conference so you'll see how it works :-)

I just completed a visioconference between southern france and
northern england with a very bad connection on the english side, and
the result was absolutely good.

Obviously the video coming from england was not smooth, but the audio
quality remained good, equivalent to a good telephone. Perfect for
visioconference.

Red5 is a really solid solution. I can't wait to have live h264 streaming!

Nice work Thomas,

I have several questions;

1- If I try to seek, although it buffers (the blue stick is ahead), it usually stops?

2- What about a long video(at least 1 hour) instead of 5 minutes, is the performance the same?

3- What are the machine properties u are using for red5?

4- Are you using Windows or Linux, if Linux which kind?

Thank you,

Mehmet

What do you mean? I don't have this problem. The sample videos are
only 10-20s long, so yeah they stop pretty fast. I think the buffering
is fake, as I use pure rtmp streaming, that's simply Flowplayer acting
erratically.

I have not noticed any problem.

Dedicated server Pentium P4HT 3GHz with 2Gb ram, and 100Mb/s ethernet.

> 4- Are you using Windows or Linux, if Linux which kind?
Linux of course! It's a Debian Lenny virtual machine running on Xen ;-)

Cheers,

Thomas,

I think the seeking problem might cause because of the shortness of video

It happens when I click near to end,  anyway wonderful job man..

Oh ok, yes that happens. There aren't enough keyframes to be perfectly
accurate, but it's cool enough. Anyway, with vimeo you can't even
scrub at all beyond the preloaded area...

Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it.
