Hi,

The MySQL Connector for OpenOffice.org, formerly known as Sun MySQL
Connector, formerly known as ... ehm, I don't remember ..., has been
released in version 1.0.

You might want to visit

http://blogs.sun.com/GullFOSS
for the detailed announcement (but hey, you already saw this blog
  posting, right?)

http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/mysql_connector
  for the direct download

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Database/Drivers/MySQL_Native/1.0
for a little Getting Started guide

I want to thank the MySQL side of our team for their work - we tried
hard to break their underlying Connector/C(++), but if we really managed
to, they quickly came back with a fix. How depressing!

Also, I want to thank our program manager Marcus Lange, who relieved us
from most of the ugly administrative work around such a project which
Real Coders (TM) don't like to do.

Additionally, without you people testing our previous releases, and
finding some ugly bugs we could fix meanwhile, 1.0 would not have had
the quality it has right now - kudos!

Have fun with this release, and don't forget to tell us the things we
screw up (or the things which we did right)!

Ciao
Frank

Hi Frank,

I tried to install it with extension manager as update, and not find it.

Later recognized that the beta and final version have different names.
After that I installed, beta and final version remained on my OOo, later
beta removed.

I suggest beta testers first remove beta version and after install final.
Thanks,
Zoltan

Hi Zoltan,

that's correct. Maybe you have already noticed that the product name has
changed a bit. Therefore we also had to change the filesnames to reflect
the new name. The consequence is that the update path is broken. But I
think it's OK when going from beta to final. ;-)

Best regards

Marcus

Hi Ariel,

I've tried it a second ago and I get the Linux x86-64 OXT file. Maybe it
helps to reload the website.

Or you can open the respective website directly:
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/download/2907

Best regards

Marcus

I meant I could download it and install it, but it's just not working: when it
tries to establish a connection to the server, it shows a "driver not found
for the given url" message == it cannot load the driver.

By the way, is the wiki outdated?
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Database/Drivers/MySQL_Native/1.0#Select_the_type_of_the_driver
I don't see three options if I select MySQL (JDBC, ODBC, native).
I had to select the native connector in the wizard's first page, not MySQL on
the first and then native on the second.

Darn it - but there is still a problem...and if I sound mad later in
this email it is because I'm mad at the QA guy for not catching
it...which would be me.

Ubuntu 9.04 (64bit) - OO.o 3.1.1 - The latest driver from the extension
repository just now.

Opening current odb files, created using earlier alpha/beta versions of
the driver are working - apparently correctly.

Can not however, create any new odb files using native connection -
fails with a socket error. Putting nothing in the property for socket
fails with a socket name = the extension file name. (Tried the binary
that was sent last week and it fails identically...why didn't I try
that...#$%$#)

Also - to be sure, and just now . Went into Win 7, OO.o 3.1.1 and the
MySQL Connector 1.0 (although the one sent to me, not retrieved from the
extension site just now...hmm) and created a new file, connecting to the
MySQL server on the Ubuntu 9.04 server.

Opened this from under the Ubuntu desktop and changed the ip address in
properties - the file opens, the forms work, all appears well.

Tried to create a data source via the GUI - nope - still get the socket
error.

Will go back and try the actual binary file from the extension site
under Win7...arrrgh, then come back to Ubuntu and try with a fresh
install of OO.o - could be something with the stored settings from the
beta I suppose.

Drew

yes, removing /home/ariel/.openoffice.org/3/user/uno_packages/cache/registry
solved the problem (I don't who is to blame here: the extension or the
configuration framework).

Hi all,

so, the issues you are facing is:

- due to the changed product name the final version does not update the
beta version in Extension Manager and

- the connection problem due to the remaining beta configurationin OOo.

If others can confirm this I would add both things as limitation to the
information in the Extension Repository.

Thanks

Marcus
