MySQL Spatial Extension

Hi All,
Can someone help me in to make to work MySQL spatial?
The version is the 4.1.
Would I like to connect it with a Shapefile, is it possible?

This is the postgis-users mailing list.  PostGIS is an extension
to PostgreSQL; you'll get more help with MySQL on a MySQL-related
mailing list.  But as long as you're here, maybe we could convince
you to abandon MySQL and switch to PostgreSQL and PostGIS :-)
