Lou This is a summary of reports from the Northern California BirdBox, sponsored by the Golden Gate Audubon Society, compiled 15 May 2012, 07:46 p.m. Highlights: RED-NECKED GREBE, BLACK OYSTERCATCHER, GREATER ROADRUNNER, VAUX'S SWIFT, BLACK SWIFT, WHITE-THROATED SWIFT, BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD, NORTHERN PARULA, YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, BLUE GROSBEAK, GRASSHOPPER SPARROW, LAWRENCE'S GOLDFINCH. Contra Costa Co. ----------------- On May 13, a singing male NORTHERN PARULA at Mitchell Canyon was seen 0.2 miles up the main trail. (Logan Kahle) Marin Co. --------- On May 13, a male BLUE GROSBEAK was seen at a feeder in the upper parts of Muir Beach. (Dave MacKenzie) Merced Co. ---------- On May 11, the RED-NECKED GREBE continues to be seen at the Fahey Fish Ponds. Take Hwy 33 north to Santa Nella, turn east onto Fahey Road. Go about 2 miles till you cross a canal. The grebe was in the ponds on the north side. (2) BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD, (1) YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, and (1) male BLUE GROSBEAK were seen along the Souza Marsh Trail at the San Luis NWR. (2) GREATER ROADRUNNER were seen below the San Luis Reservoir dam along Basalt Road. A male LAWRENCE'S GOLDFINCH was seen at the Basalt Campgrounds. (Peter Metropulos) San Mateo Co. ------------- On May 14, a BLACK SWIFT, (2) WHITE-THROATED SWIFT, (2) VAUX'S SWIFT and (3) singing GRASSHOPPER SPARROW were seen at Bedwell Bayfront park in Menlo Park. (Peter Metropulos) Solano Co. ---------- On May 15, a BLACK OYSTERCATCHER was seen at the First Street Pier in Benicia.
