I would take the loadtasks out of your script. Put all the NantControl/bin files into the Nant/bin folder. It should be able to locate them when you do that. Make sure you match the Nant and Nantcontrib versions.

Hi, I've installed CC.net on a server machine and successfulyl tied it in to SVN so that it builds on SVN changes and runs some simple Nunit tests. While setting it all up, I was using a small C# application that was compiled in the Nant script using the <csc> tag without any problems.

However, I'm now trying to get the setup working with some more substantial projects I'm encountering some problems. Instead of using <csc> to compile a simple helloworld.cs program, I'm trying to build entire solutions. After some searching I'm using some code like the following:

I've downloaded the Nant.contrib package and tried copying it to both Nant\bin folder, and also on another occasion to some sub-folders of Nant (tasks\net and somewhere else)

Trying to parse XMLA using

Good Afternoon Folks,

I was just playing around with this and I was able to do it with a C# script function in a target:

I once did the bat-file-method as Bob suggests, but I also wrapped it in a
VB script (not the ultimate best-practice but it worked :-)

The only thing I could think would be to exec a bat file that prompts for a
value and writes it to a text file or something. I pretty much think nant
is designed for non-attended use.

Nope, if the DLL is in the same folder as the nant.exe then it should load it.

gotcha. Once the contrib assemblies are in the bin folder of my nant installation, do I have to do anything special as an import or anything to get my build scripts to recognize the contrib tasks?

You need to take the NAntContrib files and copy them into your NAnt installation, at which point you can then use both NAnt and NAntContrib tasks in your build scripts.

If your using the nant-contrib library you can use the record task (http://nantcontrib.sourceforge.net/release/latest/help/tasks/record.html) to save your output to a log file. It supports various output logging levels and you will still get your output on the console.

I need to print the actual text "&quote" (minus the quote marks) to a file and not have nant translate that to a " character.

To iterate a FileSet, I think you will need to set the item in the <foreach> task to File rather than String e.g.

<in>

Etc.

Also. if you want to check if the FileSet contains files, you can use the fileset::to-string in NAntContrib. E.g.

will write a pipe delimited list of the files to the log/console

I’m trying to make my build scripts a bit more maintainable. Part of the build script’s job is to tag code into svn and export code from svn. We have a directory in svn called ‘thirdParty’ to hold our thirdParty libs. The thirdParty directory holds thirdParty libs for many different applications.

In my application build script, I am currently itemizing each individual thirdParty folder in both the target that tags the source code and the target that exports the source code. If I add a new thirdParty dependency, I have to remember to update the build script in both places.

What I’d like to do is keep a “list” of thirdParty dependencies by my application in a single place. Then in both the tag and export targets iterate over that list and build the appropriate command from the items in that list. I’m trying to use fileset and foreach tasks to accomplish this, but so far I haven’t been able to get it to work.

My fileset looks like (this is not contained in a target):

</fileset>

And here’s a portion of my target for exporting using the foreach task:

<in>

</in>

<do>

</exec>

</do>

</foreach>

…

Something is not set up quite right as the message "found ${thirdParty.name}" never gets printed.

What am I missing? Or, if there is a easier/better way to accomplish the same thing using different tasks, please let me know.

I am using the latest nightly build: (Build 0.86.3412.0; nightly; 5/5/2009)

Your fileset it probably empty. You don't specify a basedir. Is AjaxControlToolkit literally the name of a file?

I believe that resgen.exe fails because it does not
have the ‘Resgen.exe.manifest’ file in the TEMP
directory where is running. This file contains:

Yes. the project it is build with VS.Net 2003. Because it has the
"devenv.exe.manifest" file in the directory of the devenv.exe executable.
10x for solving this problem.

This is now fixed in cvs. You can just copy resgen.exe.manifest to the SDK
directory in which resgen.exe is located, and NAnt will now automatically
pick it up and copy it the intermediate build directory.

I'll soon upload a new nightly build containing this fix.

Small question: does your project build using VS.NET 2003 ?

I need to compile a project, witch has an serialized
ImageList, with a different version of
Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls. In order to do this I
need a file named “Resgen.exe.manifest” to exist in the
folder where “resgen.exe” tool is installed.
I observed that this version of nant (0.85) copy and
executes resgen.exe from an other directory (temp one). This
is the reason why it fails to build the project where other
(than default) version of Common-Controls is needed.

In nant 0.85-rc3 the “resgen.exe” is executed from the
directory where is installed, and not from a temp one.

This assumption are made based one the error messages I
obtained:

Nant 0.85-rc3:
External Program Failed: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual
Studio .NET 2003\SDK\v1.1\bin\resgen.exe (return code was
-1163019603)

Nant 0.85:
External Program Failed: C:\Documents and
Settings\build\Local Settings\Temp\tmp2231.tmp\resgen.exe
(return code was
-1163019603)

And you can see that is a different behavior between the two
versions.
And I can solve the problem for RC3, as mentioned above, but
for the newer version I will need a way to obtain the
directory where “resgen.exe” will be copyed in order to put
the needed file.
Or maybe you can give another solution for this issue.

PS> If you want to replicate the problem try to compile this
project with nant:
(see in attach).
