What do members think regarding the Chief Constable of Hertfordshire's idea that NHW members should/could patroling crime-hit areas at night and checking of car tax discs. When I maintained NHW for my Police Division many years ago NHW members were told catogorically that they would not be expected to patrol their areas or act in any way as a vigilanty group, in fact the practice would be frowned upon. I strongly believe that this is an attempt by the CC to Police our area on the cheap and his suggestions are totaly unacceptable. I believe that it is a dangerous practice for the grass roots members of NHW to get involved to this degree. Yes by all means feed the Police intelligence reports, that is what NHW is about, as well as keeping your family and property secure, keeping them informed on what is happening in the area then they should deal with the problem. To much funding has been spent in the past on the Special Counstable and now the PCSO's who have very little or no power to deal with incidents when that funding could have been better spent in employing more full time Police Officers.
