lectures* in biroul curatorilor Liviana Dan si Anca Mihulet. In 2010, seria
Fodor (Ungaria/Austria) si Jan Tabor (Cehia/Austria).

teoretice folosite in cultura contemporana.

Primul invitat in cadrul acestui proiect este Dan Coma, arhitect nascut la
Sibiu.
In anii ’80 a fost
arhitectura si pre-arhitectura - *A House for Ingmar Bergman, A House for
Faust, * *Architecture and Alchemy* sau *Architecture and Dissent*.

In contextul *Office Exhibitions*, Dan Coma va sustine prelegerea *Futurism,
Bauhaus, F.L.Wright / 100 de ani, 90 de ani, 50 de ani*, vineri, 18
decembrie, orele 17.00.

moartea marelui arhitect american, F.L.Wright. *

*Ii uneste oare ceva, dincolo de « accidentul » acestei coincidente
cronologice… ?

*Daca Europa si Statele Unite, in prima jumatate a secolului XX, au
reprezentat forte culturale majore, atunci Futurismul, Bauhaus-ul si
in orice analiza a culturii secolului trecut. *

*Sa vedem deci in ce masura fascinatia violentei, masinii si a vitezei

RECYCLE NEST reminder

RECYCLE NEST, primul eveniment: CONSTRUCŢII AUXILIARE PROVIZORII

16 decembrie, ora 18

lectures* in biroul curatorilor Liviana Dan si Anca Mihulet. In 2010, seria
Fodor (Ungaria/Austria) si Jan Tabor (Cehia/Austria).

teoretice folosite in cultura contemporana.

Primul invitat in cadrul acestui proiect este Dan Coma, arhitect nascut la
Sibiu.
In anii ’80 a fost
arhitectura si pre-arhitectura - *A House for Ingmar Bergman, A House for
Faust, * *Architecture and Alchemy* sau *Architecture and Dissent*. In
contextul *Office Exhibitions*, Dan Coma va sustine doua prelegeri - *COLI

mistic Chinez, Lao Tze. *

Strife of Love in a Dream’’ a artistului Miron Schmückle deschisa recent la

*Ce a putut aduce o « simpla » coliba in interiorul unui spatiu
expozitional… ? *

*In numele acestei eterne actualitati vom face o prezentare care va ilustra
prezenta colibei in cele mai variate ipostaze, toate ilustrand modernitatea,
chiar « avantgardismul » colibei, intr-o lume obsedata de crestere continua,
la toate nivelurile. *

modesta constructie are mai multa acuitate decat multe din « vilele »
opulentei. *

transforma intr-o « instalatie, » care ar trebui sa provoace vizual,
emotional si conceptual.* (Dan Coma)
------------------------------
*
Changing Climate
New Media and Video Art from Central Asia
Exhibition: November 26 – December 19, 2009

Exhibition participants: Mumtoz Kamolzoda (Tajikistan), Abilsaid Atabekov,
Rustam Khalfin, Erbolsyn Meldibekov, Alexandr Ugay (Kazakhstan), Veaceslav
Ahunov (Uzbekistan), Shaarbek Amankul, Ulan Djaparov (Kyrgyzstan)

Curated by Stefan Rusu

The exhibition introduce particular artists’ strategies and contemporary art
practices that serve as an effective tool in exploring the contradictions
and confusion of contemporary Islamic states/societies several decades after
the dissolution of the Soviet Block. We invite you to dive into these
artists’ laboratory, in which the reuse of spiritual techniques and
practices becomes an effective model in articulating critical attitudes
toward inertia, rampant globalization, and neo-liberal anarchy. The artists’
obsession with ecstatic vocabulary comes from a range of nomadic rituals,
pre-Islamic and syncretic practices that define their lives and cultural
environment. The work urges the viewer to gain an overview of the present
situation in Central Asia. Compiled by a guest curator, this visual material
offers a retrospective look at the internal processes of the region’s
social-political evolution and its underlying cultural background.
The exhibition is also an attempt to question former and ongoing EU policy
developments in the context of emerging black markets and the migration of
labour forces from the Eastern countries—and also the effects of EU
enlargement and politics on neighbouring countries to the East. In this
context the artists exploring the values of nomadic culture offer valuable
contributions to the current changes in cultural and political climate of
their countries of origin. With this action we intend to broaden and deepen
the process of cultural exchange between Europe and Central Asia with a
selection of artist positions with a special focus on new media and video
art from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
*
*Changing Climate*
*Neue Medien und Videokunst aus Zentralasien *
Ausstellung: 26.11. - 19.12. 2009

Ausstellungsteilnehmer/innen: Mumtoz Kamolzoda (Tadschikistan), Abilsaid
Atabekov, Rustam Khalfin, Erbolsyn Meldibekov, Alexandr Ugay (Kasachstan),
Veaceslav Ahunov (Usbekistan), Shaarbek Amankul und Ulan Djaparov
(Kirgisistan)

Voorstel kerstactie Nettime: kamp Ashraf

In

ellendigheden in wereld.

Stichting Mensenrechten Vrienden
ING 49084249
SNS 937569720
o.v.v. Ashraf

Google ‘Ashraf’ levert volop informatie over deze kwestie. Hier enkele
relevante links:

journalist Wim Brands in gesprek over privacy.
staat.

Moderator: Wim Brands

Connie Palmen

In haar

Connie Palmen zelf spreekt in

A new release from Archis Publishers

‘Here as the Centre of the World ’ documents a transnational artistic
research project that took place in six cities worldwide: Beirut, Damascus,
Diyarbakir, Enschede, Khartoum and Taipei. It reports and reflects on the
real conditions in which cultural differences were articulated in the day-to
day activities of the 75 participant artists. The book takes the project as
a departure point for further reflection by artists, writers, theorists and
cultural producers.
Zaterdag 19•12•2009 paradiso

Design Museum in Paradiso

daarbij hun traditionele rol

zullen hun positie
moeten herzien. Het zoeken is naar nieuwe denkkaders en
kwaliteitscriteria die van toepassing zijn op
de online culturele wereld. Sprekers als Bruce Sterling, Andrew Keen,
Sarah Cook en Aram Bartholl delen
hun visie op dit vraagstuk tijdens het symposium ‘Me you and everyone
we know is a curator’,
19 december organiseert in Paradiso.

In onze genetwerkte

publieksbereik (The Hub, Amsterdam).

Over Digitale Pioniers
maatschappelijke organisaties zonder winstoogmerk.

http://limpingmessenger.wordpress.com/2009/12/14/klimaatalarm-op-
koopzondag/

exemplaren in toendertijd Nederland.

levenswijze.
PinchukArtCentre are Among the Benefits of Major New Award
KIEV, UKRAINE
On 8 December the Victor Pinchuk Foundation announced that it inaugurated
the Future Generation Art Prize <http://futuregenerationartprize.org/>, a
major new international competition for artists up to 35. Established to
discover and provide long-term support for a generation of emerging artists,
wherever they may live and work, this unique artist-focused prize aims to
make a major contribution toward the production of new work by young
artists.
The biennial Prize is distinguished by:

 - its global dimension;
 - its focus on a young generation of artists;
 - its open and democratic Internet application process;
 - the long-term commitment of leading artists of our time;
 - a distinguished Board, Jury and Selection Committee;
 - an exhibition of shortlisted artists at the PinchukArtCentre in Kiev,
one of the largest and most active new contemporary art institutions in
 Europe;
 - and an award of $100,000, to be conferred by a respected international
 jury.

Applications for the Prize will become available online on January 18, 2010,
at the competition’s website, www.futuregenerationartprize.org. The
exhibition of shortlisted artists will open at the PinchukArtCentre (PAC) in
October 2010. The jury will announce the winner of the main prize in
December 2010, and up to five special prizes for artists who will be
provided with various forms of support.
To encourage the assistance of one generation of artists to the next, a
group of renowned Mentor Artists has committed its long-term participation
in the Prize and will provide in-person counsel and support to the Prize
winners, and one of the Mentor artists will have a parallel show at the same
time as each shortlist exhibition. The Mentor Artists are Andreas Gursky,
Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons and Takashi Murakami.
A distinguished international Board oversees the Future Generation Art
Prize. In addition to chairman Victor Pinchuk and the four Mentor Artists,
the Board’s membership includes Eli Broad, Dakis Joannou, Elton John,
Miuccia Prada and art museum directors Richard Armstrong
(Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and Museum), Glenn D. Lowry (The Museum of
Modern Art), Alfred Pacquement (Musée nationale d’art moderne, Centre
Georges Pompidou) and Sir Nicholas Serota (Tate).
Extending the reach of the Future Generation Art Prize, an invited group of
approximately one hundred arts professionals from around the world will
nominate artists for consideration. By combining the open application
process with these nominations, PAC aspires to achieve the participation of
a true global cross-section of the up-to 35 generation.
You're very right on that.

It is just that I keep seeing these urgencies. A friend of mine just came
back from Detroit with pictures of an abandoned police station with
decency the police has these days to burn the the place down before
leaving it. That is what you get when the traces of people become more
important for the people working in the system then the people themselves,
in the end the become the objective allies of those wanting to change it,
as we all get fed up by the blatant injustices and the rhetoric of a man

"Over 220 million American people armed to the teeth and ready to explode"
would be about 2/3 of the population. That would mean that every citizen
15-64 years old is armed to the teeth and ready to explode -- which seems
a bit daft. Let's be conservative and assume that only 50% of Americans
aged 15-64 are armed to the teeth and ready to explode, so we'd need to
make up the difference from the x<15 or x>65 YO contingents. I'm seeing
a sort of Khmer Rouge-like reign of terror waged by a popular front made up
of heavily armed 7YOs and, I guess, the newly radicalized Grey Panthers --
who of course have a lot in common with youngsters, as we can see from the
current healthcare debate, which boils down to old people stealing medicine
the Institute for Global Economic Growth.

"The underground or "black" economy is rapidly rising, and the fault is
mainly due to government policies.

Here is the evidence. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC) released
a report last week concluding that 7.7% of U.S. households, containing at
least 17 million adults, are unbanked (i.e. those who do not have bank
accounts), and an "estimated 17.9% of U.S. households, roughly 21 million,
are underbanked" (i.e., those who rely heavily on nonbank institutions,
such as check cashing and money transmitting services). As an economy
becomes richer and incomes rise, the normal expectation is that the
proportion of the unbanked population falls and does not rise as is now
happening in the United States."
BaldwinSource: http://www.renewamerica.com/columns/baldwin/091211

According to an obscure report in the European Union Times (EUTimes.net),
"Russian Military Analysts are reporting to Prime Minister Putin that US
President Barack Obama has issued an order to his Northern Command's
(USNORTHCOM) top leader, US Air Force General Gene Renuart, to 'begin
immediately' increasing his military forces to 1 million troops by January
30, 2010, in what these reports warn is an expected outbreak of civil war
within the United States before the end of winter.

The EU Times article continues by saying, "To the fears of Obama over the
United States erupting into civil war once the full extent of the rape and
pillaging of these peoples by their banks and government becomes known to
them, grim evidence now shows the likelihood of this occurring much sooner
than later."

The Times story goes on to say that there are "over 220 million American
people armed to the teeth and ready to explode."

Many of us would be inclined to pooh-pooh such a story, but then there is
this column from Bloomberg.com entitled "Arming Goldman With Pistols
Against Public," written by Alice Schroeder. According to Ms Schroeder:

"'I just wrote my first reference for a gun permit,' said a friend, who
told me of swearing to the good character of a Goldman Sachs Group Inc.
banker who applied to the local police for a permit to buy a pistol. The
banker had told this friend of mine that senior Goldman people have loaded
up on firearms and are now equipped to defend themselves if there is a
populist uprising against the bank."

There is no doubt that the American people have good reason to despise
these international banksters epitomized by Goldman Sachs. Even one of
Goldman's poster-boys, Henry Paulson, US Treasury secretary and former
Goldman CEO, admitted that the American people were fed up. Schroeder
quotes Paulson as saying, during testimony to Congress last summer,
"[People] were unhappy with the big discrepancies in wealth, but they at
least believed in the system and in some form of market-driven capitalism.
But if we had a complete meltdown, it could lead to people questioning the
basis of the system."

Schroeder correctly opines, "There you have it. The bailout was meant to
keep the curtain drawn on the way the rich make money, not from the free
market, but from the lack of one. Goldman Sachs blew its cover when the
firm's revenue from trading reached a record $27 billion in the first nine
months of this year, and a public that was writhing in financial agony
caught on that the profits earned on taxpayer capital were going to pay
employee bonuses."

.....
I would dare say that the first State that determines to follow Vieira's
sagacious counsel (and rumblings of this have already begun in states such
as Alaska, Oklahoma, Texas, Montana, New Hampshire, Indiana, Tennessee,
South Carolina, etc.) would have so many liberty-loving patriots flock
there that its economy would explode with prosperity resulting in a
domino effect of many other states following suit and the revolution that
this country so desperately needs would indeed take place. Furthermore,
such a revolution would be constitutional, lawful, moral, and, yes, in
compliance with the laws of Nature and of Nature's God."

cheers! Rob

Campagne tegen ruiming vee

Q-koorts is omgegaan.

Noord-Brabant. Daarna volgen Gelderland, Overijssel en Limburg.

petitie: http://www.partijvoordedieren.nl/content/view/453
bron: http://www.ravagedigitaal.org/2009nieuws/december/14/nws.php

______________________________________________________

Today, during the national strike of education, thousands of students made
demonstrations in several italian cities against cuts funding and claiming
basic income and autonomy of research.

During the demonstration in Rome students shouted their solidarity to German
students who have been evicted from university in the last week in different
German cities. Above all in Frankfurt more than 170 students have been
identified, five of them have been hit by police needing hospital aid, and
all students have been denounced for illegal occupation.

After these facts students decided to express their solidarity showing a
banner *in front of the Embassy of Germany that said "Make our university!
solidarity with German students"* shouting that our struggle is a common

I agree that the tax code needs revision. Many agree we should work to
better the tax code for utilitarian purpose, even Warren Buffett:
McCaskill (D-Mo.). ???It was interesting to see someone who is such an
saying we???ve got the scales way too heavily toward people who are very,
very wealthy.??? Buffett told lawmakers that because of the cuts to the
capital gains tax passed under former President George W. Bush, he pays
commercial media stranglehold on mass communication effectively ensures
that ideas such as those of our own, or Nader's, Kucinich, etc. - will
never be widely apprised by the public.

Until there is a threshold level of communicative freedom and reciprocity
in the public arena, all of the views categorized as significantly
progressive are bound to be marginalized by corporate orthodox media.
Without a mainstream media outlet within which to communicate to the silent
majorities, the dissemination problem remains intractable.

"I want to ask Jacques Derrida a question."

I want to ask Jacques Derrida a question.

It is question about death, not in particular his death.

But a question concerned with the aporia of death, not necessarily his
own.

Such a question, which would have been possible several years ago, is no
longer possible.

We are thrown back on the words of Jacques Derrida.

We are immured there.

It would have been simple: Jacques, here is what I want to know.

Do you have a minute of your time.

The body of Jacques Derrida still exists.

His body, phoric, carries the aporia.

The aporia is not his own, nor can he speak and return an unraveling.

Today, words are never set in stone, and questions go unanswered.

Today, questions disappear, and their occasion disappears.

The occasion of a question: a gap, as in a detective story.

As if the question were sutured by an answered, when in fact it is sutured
by any reply at all.

An answer responds to a question; a reply responds to the occasion of a
question.

I remember Jacques Derrida, and would have tapped him on the shoulder,
saying, excuse me, but ...

There is an image I have of this tapping: the softness of his jacket, the
slight giving away of the flesh beneath, and he turns towards me.

When I move my hands, everything is empty.

Jacques Derrida is a remnant of matter.

... "If death" ... "names the very irreplaceability of absolute
singularity (no one can die in my place or in the place of the other),
then all the _examples_ in the world can precisely illustrate this
singularity. Everyone's death, the death of all those who can say 'my
death,' is irreplaceable." ... (Derrida, Aporias)

When I move my hands: when my hands are moved for me, are only moved for
me: mise en scene, a scenario or occurrence, chora.

I do not collapse time, Jacques, in order to speak to you: I speak to
you.

I do not collapse space, in order to speak: I touch you lightly on your
shoulder, I wait until you turn around, your glance moves in my direction,
momentarily you are caught up in my gaze, you hesitate whether or not to
return your own, your reply to my question, you return such, as if such is
returned, an exchange of gifts or misrecognition.

Of the good, there is the edge of a knife, and the fall which surrounds
it; of the spoken, there is a comprehension, empathetic alignment, then
nothing.

Of the spoken, the knife edge separates the question I give to Jacques as
a gift, an awakening, and the reply which shatters after a particular
time, calculable, unattainable.

Of the question: all questions are a permanence: It is impossible to
answer a question.

Jacques turns; I look at his shoes. Thinking of Van Gogh, of Heidegger,
of Jacques Derrida, I take several photographs. They are remnants, indices
with lost referents; they are abject. I am silent; I say nothing to him,
to Van Gogh, to Heidegger. Repeatedly I raise the camera; eye-level, I aim
downward, towards an incalculable earth. The images, lost, are digital;
they never were. Between one pixel and another, a hole, precisely the
width of death.
viewed as the modern (computerized) form of coin shaving, in effect
stripping off other's wealth as those others attempt to profit . The
sources (eventual losers) are many pension funds , public and
private, mutual funds, charitable foundation endowments, average stock
investors, anyone who "saves" (very much including Chinese workers as
well as investors), recycled petrodollars, university endowments,
insurance funds and so on. More or less, the high earnings in are
"robbing Peter to pay Paul." And the high earners, at various times do
include funds of all these sorts as long as they have invested in the
right coin shavers of the moment. So there is in fact a partial
"Public Trust" already acting in the way you suggest, at times at
least funding real jobs in education, health (through hospitals and
other charitable foundations who invest their endowments) and so on.
The successful endowments of course compete with less successful one
or publicly funded entities for star professors, doctors, etc.,
leading the res to to increase fees, find ways to cut corners, or hire
part-timers to seem competitive. (I've discussed much of this on my
Blog, in more detail http://goldhaber.org/blog/?p=147 http://goldhaber.org/blog/?p=149
 http://goldhaber.org/blog/?p=151 http://goldhaber.org/blog/?p=155 )

Meanwhile, as financial firms seem to be better at profit making than
say industrial ones, the latter compete by also trying to cut
corners, , moving jobs abroad, automating, lowering wages and
benefits, etc. the increasing inequality (domestically at least) then
puts pressure on private consumption (since higher "earners" tend to
"save" more). Financial firms themselves inevitably compete with each
other by taking ever-greater risks. The result is the sort of money
economy the US has had in the last couple of decades, with frequent
bubbles —which eventually burst — and more and more froth. When a
downturn occurs, public funds that have gone into supporting the
portion of institutions such as schools and hospitals that have had
to compete with the well endowed ones are further imperiled —since
states are not allowed budget deficits, and increased taxes are made
to seem unpopular — leading to greater inequality, and so on.

I don't quite see how a smoother system of the sort you propose could
work, since it would mean everyone stealing from each other, in
effect., and to an equal extent. Krugman's suggestion of the Tobin
tax, if it were effective, would lessen the profits form speedy
transactions more than it would raise government revenues, I think It
would help limit inequality, but would not undo the damage of the last
thirty years, for which a wealth tax seems the best remedy as far as I
can see.

But the deeper problem is the growing scarcity of attention, and the
resultant heightened competition for it. Even the Wall St. traders who
rake in tens of millions or even several billion each year do not do
it so much for what the wealth will buy them as for the symbolic value
of looking good ot their peers, it would seem. Meanwhile competition
for attention through other channels escalates. Scholars, surgeons,
trial lawyers and others lust for stardom, and stardom also means high
incomes. (The kinds of public services such as education and medical
care that you emphasize are mostly ones that must offer attention to
ordinary citizens, which helps explain why they will stay unequal.)
Even those on the left who praise equality don't necessarily accept it
in practice, for you can be a star leftist (in a relatively small
supported when hyper-individualism rages is the real difficulty.
over my blog, of course. )
> being issued to a Pubilc Trust, an active governmental trading
> institution that would post all gains as income for the public etc etc

In New York City in early 2008 we organized a Continental Drift session
at 16 Beaver where a critic of the financial markets, Henry C.K. Liu
whom you can read in the Asia Times, explained that the housing bubble
was going to be the last one. Why? Because in the logic of bubbles, each
one has to be bigger than the one before, and given that this one had
reached all the way down into the savings-and-borrowings of the lower
middle and working classes, it would be impossible to find more capital
than that, the whole cookie was in the oven and when it came out burnt a
new recipe would have to be found altogether. Henry C.K. Liu thought a
bunch of crazy artists were the perfect kind of people for the present
moment, cause they could think up something new while the old order was
tanking. Well, guess what? Due to the kinds of counter-cyclical policies
that every bureaucrat and monetary official gushes over at the beginning
of every TV interview (stimulus for Goldman Sachs & co) it now appears
that the result of the mega-bubble of 2007-08 will be... a zmega-bubble,
this time in "global assets," i.e. investment-quality whatever, as long
as its FAR AWAY.

It's called the carry trade, it used to go from Japan to Brazil and
Australia and now it goes from the US to points everywhere. It works
like this: to fight off the new Great Depression, interest rates in the
US are basically zero, once a little inflation is factored in anyway: so
you can borrow for free (zmegabanks only need apply). So what's a good
zmegatrader to do? Borrow in America and invest, not in Joe Schmo's
cement plant (which is in Thailand now anyway) but in any kind of asset
in a less troubled zone of the world economy where you can still get
five percent return or more. By doing this the added advantage is, all
these capital outflows drive down the value of the dollar, and as the
dollar goes down, the profit earned on your foreign asset increases with
the increased value of the foreign currency. People did this out of
deflation-prone Japan for ten or fifteen years, they got particularly
rich in Latin America because of the risk premium adding up to over ten
percent return on the free yen, and now it can be done on an even bigger
scale out of the USA with the free dollars. The massive bailouts, the
"quantitative easing" (i.e. liberal abuse of the printing press), all
that financial stimulus is getting poured into these easy opportunities
to make money on the interest-rate differential, plus whatever
speculative premium you can scrape up to boot. The limit comes either
when the US dollar gets so low that it can't go down anymore (cause it's
still by far the biggest economy of the world and the linchpin of the
whole system), or more ominously, when some kind of geopolitical crisis
occurs and there is a new "flight to safety" ie the greenback. Whatever
the cause, at some point sooner than later panic ensues and it's game
over all over again. Nouriel Roubini has written an important article in
the FT about this, called "The Mother of All Carry Trades," and
experience shows, you gotta read Nouriel Roubini:

http://tinyurl.com/carry-trade

So what does that mean for the average nettime-grade cultural critic?
That we should all go back to explaining the mystical Code of finance
capitalism and try to become Nicholas Ruiz the IV, V, or VI, ie that we
should all do like a good bourgeois according to Wallerstein, namely
invest and aspire to live off our rents and become an aristocrat? My
perspective is that instead of the boom-bust going on forever as it
seemed fated to in the 80s, it now looks as though the increasing scale
of each new crisis will bring about, A. major increases in the level of
social violence due to more and more people being trashed each time the
bubble bursts, and B. increasingly big returns on the
climate-contradiction, in the form of environmental disasters that will
contribute ever more to the major increases of A. What I find myself
increasingly drawn to in the moments when I have no energy for critical
analysis and social/environmental justice campaigns, is some kind of
science-fiction that could portray what things look like after a little
of that old ABABABA.

For example, let's not tax our poor heads too hard by looking more than
just one year into the future: Imagine that the Democrats totally lose
the mid-term elections due to Obama's obvious failure to do anything but
placate the financial elites - whatever, we can imagine he proposes a
Public Trust of bailout money invested in the carry trade to fix every
bridge, heal every sore, broken leg, broken heart and so on, but then at
the last minute, surprise surprise, because of a vote in the Senate it
turns out to be yet more Private Options for Goldman and J.P. Morgan and
the hedge funds - and so America swings back into some mounting rabid
Republican talk-radio fury, the carry-trade bubble bursts in our faces
and the Yellow Brick Road vanishes into the mud again, yet another ten
or fifteen percent of the middle classes are trashed, tuition at the
universities goes up 75%, the National Guard gets deployed around
hospitals to keep the uninsured at bay, a few cities get torched due to
the restiveness of the hungry and excluded, Sarah Palin starts
campaigning for Rogue of the Century, the Christian Fundamentalist
Family Bible finds a home under every Christmas Tree, fascist vigilantee
camo becomes THE patriotic outfit for the New Year, etc etc etc.
Whaddaya think? Time for an exit strategy? Maybe an earth divestment
fund? Quantum Lunar Escape anyone?

Actually I think I'll carry on with the critical analysis and the
social/environmental justice, but maybe with a greater sense of urgency.
Could it be that more same turbo-capitalism is not what we need in the
21st century?

good luck, Brian

>> the earning potential of the Market

Interessting but not juicy: Britain is deep in horror (just like
Iceland, just like Dubai) and constructing an special tax on bonuses of
bankers, ALL bankers! But to interpret this in the right manner one
has to keep in mind that not one atom of value is created by "the"
market, markets are places for selling and buying for instance money.
Sure, every plant needs fluent capital, liquid assets to get into
operation but every single commodity in capitalism is done for realizing
the value put into the commodity by labor. This _realizing_ is the
market, but the value is appraised by the necessary values (practical
value and exchange value) for getting the things (or services) produced.
These values are based on other goods and services.

So Britain needs the money to get out of the trap, they probably have no
other choice. But check out reality! There seems to be no state
socialism in it nor any sand in the weels, it's the other way round:
Those taxes will help to reinforce production of profit.

btw - my thought never extolled the 'virtue' of the Code, that was never my
assessment of it, I simply point to its metaphysical reality.

thanks for your thoughts.

To offer a brief sketch - The new idea I suggest revolves around shares and
derivative contracts being issued to a Pubilc Trust, an active governmental
trading institution that would post all gains as income for the public, in
order to contribute to the financing of public affairs (e.g. commodity
subsidies, education, healthcare, etc.) Record trading profits, year after
year, should not be exclusively available financial instutions without
public obligations.

There are a multiplicity of ways that the Public Trust would work to
support the holes created by elitist, sequestered speculation as it stands
today. Many employees do have pensions and 401K plans. But they do not
benefit from shorting activities associated with hedge funds, or derivative
trading. Hence they become buyers of interests that are sellers on
declines, and there is no balance where the public is always left holding
the bag. The public, via its government, should be able to benefit in
exactly the same way as the private speculator, and not simply be locked
into long trades (e.g. within 401K plans, etc.) in stocks, hoping for an
incline, when conditions are otherwise. It is not the case, at present,
that all people benefit from the opportunity of speculation, because of the
large capital requirements for successful trading. In fact, as a result,
most speculative activity benefits only a few major players, thus
furthering the income gap.

Foreclosures, gas prices at the pump (and green energy), a single payer
healthcare system - all of these are examples of things that could be paid
for and/or subsidized through the Public Trust.

> why not simply harness the earning potential of the Market
> for the greater good?
>
> In the US, we need to harness the power of the financial Market (i.e.
> Wall Street) for the Public - as in a 10% issuance of public shares
> of all publicly traded companies, and a 10% issuance of all tradable
> derivatives (e.g. crude oil, gold, etc.) for the financing of public
> interests (e.g. healthcare, education, social security, etc.).

A version of this argumentation has generally been trotted out during
the financial bubbles, just before the crashes, advertising the
potential of "popular investment" or the "shareholder's society." The
last time this argument was heard in the US was under Clinton before the
dot-com bust in which many middle-class people lost their savings or
their retirement. During Bush, no such argument was heard because the
sting of the last major expropriation was too close. So instead people
were encouraged to place their money in the most rock-solid investment
of all, their own house, now reconfigured as a speculative investment
