Netbeans 5.5 not starting in Linux UbuntuHello, I have installed Netbeans onto Ubuntu, and I am having somewhat trouble getting it to start. I tried it twice (once through the Synaptics package installer, second time through the *.bin file installer) and I get almost the same result. When I tried the package installer, the installation went fine, but when I tried to execute Netbeans, I got a blank monochromatic window with the license agreement. So I tried the *.bin file installation, everything went fine, but again, when I tried to open Netbeans, it showed me a blank monochromatic window. The cursor even changed depending on what it was supposingly pointing on, but I could not see or do anything... I am using Ubuntu for some time now and I never experienced anything similar...
Thanks for any help... |

Re: Netbeans 5.5 not starting in Linux UbuntuIf you're using compiz, try using JDK 1.6.0_01. If your keyboard locks
up after switching in and out of Netbeans, then switch to the newest version of JDK 1.5. (1.5.0_11?) and set AWT_TOOLKIT=MToolkit before running any Java apps. Re: Netbeans 5.5 not starting in Linux UbuntuAre you using Beryl? Maybe this is related to your window manager.

If you update to Ubuntu 7.04 (Fiesty Fawn), which released yesterday, its multiverse distribution has packages for JDK 6, NetBeans 5.5, GlassFish, and Apache Derby: http://www.sun.com/software/linux/developer.xml With these packages, you don't have to hassle with installation on Ubuntu any more. Do you have "Desktop Effects" enabled on your system ? I have blank screen of Netbeans when I have that effects on. Turning that off fixes the problem on mine ( Ubuntu beta 7.04 ). Not sure if this is fixed on official release of Ubuntu 7.04. I could not download it because of zillions of connection on the download sites. Vu |

Re: Netbeans 5.5 not starting in Linux UbuntuNot exactly NB related, but any reason the packages on newer versions of
Ubuntu are not also included on the older versions (namely 6.06 (dapper drake))? I don't think I saw those anyway. Re: Netbeans 5.5 not starting in Linux UbuntuAFAIK, older distributions are not under active development, so new
packages aren't generally added. You'll probably get a better answer on an Ubuntu forum, however. Re: Netbeans 5.5 not starting in Linux UbuntuHi,
I get similar results (blank window), when using Beryl. With compiz, everything seems to work fine (though I don't use it daily, only tried once). I'm using NB 6.0 trunk build on JDK 1.6.0. BTW, make sure you disabled the right thing: it's located in the Ubuntu's System menu -> Preferences -> Desktop Effects. Just unpress the toggle-button there. -------------------- NetBeans IDE Dev (Build 070328) 1.6.0_01-ea; Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 1.6.0_01-ea-b03 Linux version 2.6.20-14-generic running on amd64 en_US (nb); UTF-8 -------------------- 2007/4/22, Casso <elegantdeath@...>:
