Question Regarding Autocompletion of XML Schema elements

I have just recently begun using XML Schema, and I am trying to get my head around the whole namespace issue. I am embarrassed to even ask this question, but here it goes:

a namespace is comparable to a java package, correct? in the sense that a package is a location for a collection of classes, and two different packages can have a class with the same name. is this understanding correct? if so, then how does the netbeans XML editor perform autocompletion by providing the correct namespace, since the namespace is nothing more than a URI to a webpage. What about this particular URI informs the editor that the Schema elements, such as complexType and simpleType an so on, exist in this namespace?

I have created a schema, and its instance, and if the schemalocation attribute is correctly set, then the editor performs autocompletion, but in this case, i provide a schema document, so why does the schema editor provide autocompletion from just a URI? Does it have to do with a template in the editor, that is matched to this URI?

any help about this topic would be appreciated...it would go along way toward my understanding of what a namespace really is, since I plan on making my graduation project in the semantic web, rdf and ontologies, and i need to understand XML and thus namespaces very well...

thank in advance

Sam

Hi Vaclav, what's the name you used to replace TYPE? It needs to appear in the project properties file instead of TYPE, also is your license file-name in the form of license-TYPE.txt?

Just a test, try setting your project.license in the project properties to one of the existing templates (like apache20).
with license

Hi Vaclav, there's a few steps you need to
  undertake

Setup the License Text
1. Create a new text file with form
"license-TYPE.txt" where TYPE is the license type you wish to refer to.
2.
  Go to Tools > Templates
3. Click add and browse to your license
  file.

Alter your project license
1. Go to the "Files" tab.
2.
Navigate to "nbproject" and open "project.properties".
3. Add a new line
containing the following text (replacing TYPE with your license
  type):
project.license=TYPE

Now, your license will be used with
  templates that refer to it.

Hope this helps,
-Brett

with license

Hi Vaclav, there's a few steps you need to
  undertake

Setup the License Text
1. Create a new text file with form
"license-TYPE.txt" where TYPE is the license type you wish to refer to.
2.
  Go to Tools > Templates
3. Click add and browse to your license
  file.

Alter your project license
1. Go to the "Files" tab.
2.
Navigate to "nbproject" and open "project.properties".
3. Add a new line
containing the following text (replacing TYPE with your license
  type):
project.license=TYPE

Now, your license will be used with
  templates that refer to it.

Hope this helps,
-Brett

Hi Ivan,
the guidelines as they applied before the process was suspended can be
found in history of that page:
http://wiki.netbeans.org/UIReviewProcess?version=15 .

But please note that at this moment, the permanent UI specifications
linked from there are *not* up-to-date for 6.7 and the automated tests
testing the build against these specs are not running.

Does that answer your question?

Ondrej
>
> It says
> The UI review process is suspended for NetBeans 6.7.
> No UI changes are subject to mandatory UI review. In case you are
> Now if the UI review process _weren't_ suspended what would the
> Why do I have to drag it out of Ondrej?
>

Thanks for trying to grok my complex question ...

Here's the crux of the question:
What would you expect to happen when you close the TC (or the tab within
the TC) hosting a shell?

a) you expect it to terminate the shell and go away w/o ability to
re-open the window.
b) you expect it to close the window which you can bring back up again
later.

If you expect (b) then we have a problem because the only way to bring
(accidentally
closed) io windows back up is via the progress bar. But that forces you to
see a progress bar for a shell which we seem to agree is undesirable.

From the other view point. It is an IOProvider. So, it provides input and output. It seems to make a lot of sense for that area to be used for a shell.

That said, just that general area, the bottom right where tasks, search results, and IO reside, is a good place for another TC to hold a shell of some kind. This can completely detach from the I/O and becomes its own TC in that general area which seems like a good place for a shell/command window as it resides under the editor and other things as is common in other environments and editors.
> Subject: [nbui] I/O Window vs Progress (of long running processes)
>
> The current NB convention separates the closing of I/O windows from the
> termination
> of the processes running under those I/O Windows.
>
> For example, if you use the Progress UI and Cancel something, or use the Stop
> button in the I/O Window's action bar the process is terminated but the I/O
> window stays around and the user can see the last of the io and things
> like "exit satus is 0".
> Conversely one can Close an I/O window w/o impacting the underlying process.
> The I/O window can be re-opened, not throught the Window menu, but via the
> Progress UI.
>
> However, as I've been working on my terminal project,
> http://wiki.netbeans.org/TerminalEmulator, I'm a bit hesitant to
> follow the above mode. For example, my project will allow the
> creation of a TC running a shell. This window may be in it's
> own "Terminal" window or in a generic Output Window (I haven't decided yet
> what would be best).
>
> Now the purpose of the Progress UI is to track "jobs" like builds
> or vcs actions etc. These are long-lasting actions which the use
> presumably wants to track, hence the progress UI animation.
> But a shell doesn't quite fall into this category. A shell
> lasts longer than a build or a vcs action. In fact a "utility"
> shell is likely to hang around for the duration of an IDE session.
>
> For such a thing having Progress UI animation seems an unneccessary
> distraction, as any animation is.
>
> So, if one agrees that for a long lasting shell job a Progress item
> is undesirable the distinction between closing and termination becomes
> an issue. Looking at how shells within terminals are used on
> the regular desktop we see that a Close of the terminal will
> terminate the shell and vice-versa.
> This contradicts the current procatice of how the IO window is used.
>
> OTOH, my project will allow the creation of "Command" windows
> where one can execute an arbitrary command like 'ls' or 'date'.
> For these it _does_ make sense to separate window closing from
> process termination based on the current NB convention.
>
> Now, the latest I/O APs from Tomas Holy allow for the creation
> of alternative IOProviders and windows. It would make sense, for
> example, to have a TC _other_ than Output for shells. However,
> the I/O API doesn't allow for the conflation of closing and termination,
> which is the sensible thing to do for shells.
>
> The question is then ... should we enhance the I/O API to allow for
> the conflationof close and terminate or should shells go into their
> own, specialized, not I/O API based TC's?
>
> One way to answer this is to see if there are existing really-long-lasting
> actions in NB which are similar to shell as mentioned above for which
> the animation of the Progress UI is a distraction.

It says
The UI review process is suspended for NetBeans 6.7.
No UI changes are subject to mandatory UI review. In case you are
interested in an informal UI review for a part of NetBeans UI,
contact Ondrej Langr.
Now if the UI review process _weren't_ suspended what would the
guidelines be?
Why do I have to drag it out of Ondrej?

Whenever a user "Runs Project" with a remote server configuration,
there is a dialog confirming which files will be uploaded - and it can
be closed with "Return" even though the OK button is highlighted
( which I'll submit as a bug). I've found that in my workflow, I
usually don't care about this info.

It seems that an option either per project or per configuration to
bypass this dialog and have the files uploaded as soon as "Run" is
selected would prevent the user from having to take their hands off
the keyboard and fiddle with the mouse on every (often frequent) upload.

Thanks!

The auto generated Exit Menu item close my application properly (closing my Spring Context properly).
But when I close it with the Close the windows with the top Button, the behaviour is different. The windows disappear but the JVM does not exit properly (Spring context does not close properly).

How can I have access to the Close event from the JFrame under the FrameView object?

Maybe it is too late for me and I am too tired to understand, but I am
not sure what exactly are you asking for. Can you provide more details
about what you have already and what you want?
If you don't mind, then by the way, I would like to recommend you not
mixing application logic and GUI in one layer. For tiny applications
it works well, but if you do build something bigger than just an
example application, you will quickly become a beneficent of having
your application better designed.
Keep your 'bussiness logic' separated from GUI. For example: do not
mix code which actually check user credentials with the code which
creates and manages windows, buttons or text fields, and do not
reference any GUI code from within application logic code.

2008/6/6 indigo0086 <ndig0086@...>:

>
> Basically have a a class that implements JDialog and shows a login screen, it
> has a boolean value which indicates if the result was OK or not (in this
> case, the login was valid or the user canceled). Basically the simple
> functionality looks like this
>
> [code]
>                Login l = new Login(null, true);
>                l.setVisible(true);
>
>                if(l.getResult())
>                    new MainForm().setVisible(true);
> else
>                    System.exit(0);
> [/code]
>
> Now this works well, if the user presses ok, the event for the button sets
> the result to true and the login data is valid, false if canceled. The
> window is shown if the result is true.
>
> The only thing is the MainForm class has a File Menu option with logout,
> which I intend to have the main form close and the login dialog to show up
> again so another use can login. I trued putting the code above in a loop
> with a guard that cna be changed in the main-form via a callback, but since
> hte main form is modeless, the login pops up right after it is shown. Also
> system.exit closes the entire application. Is there a way to do it the way
> I want?

Hi all and thanks for your precious work in developing NetBeans.

I'm writing to let you know of a feature I would like to see inside the
IDE, I actually don't know if it is hard to achieve or it's easy...
I would like to be able to add and edit a Web Service inside a simple
"Java Application Project" or inside a "Java Library Project".

I'm using NetBeans 6.5 beta, and I actually do obtain the same result by
manually adding Jax-WS and JaxB jars, add a simple Java class, and
manually annotating it with @WebService etc.
I do run the web Service inside Main of a console app by using
javax.xml.ws.Endpoint. However I do not get Web Service editing support
as I do get when I build a "Web Application Project"... (I can only add a
Web Service Client)

Thank you for the attention,
please don't flame me if I've missed some kind of configuration which
would allow me to obtain what I'm searching for! :-)

Oh, sorry about that, posting in the wrong forum.

Thanks for the answer though. I know what you mean about the navigator window, and I've tried it before but I can't change any components listed there. Or wait, I can rename them, but I can't remove them. It still says that I'm using the button groups though the only time they're mentione in the code is when I set them.

Delete them from the UI editor not the code editor. See the navigator window where you can remove them under other components. You can easily change variable names as well. Just right click on a component in either view...UI editor or the Navigator window, or click once on a name in the navigator window and click again but not too fast; double click adds the default event handler.

I suggest generally playing around with the UI editor. It is pretty similar to almost all UI editors. Also, most features one expects in an IDE are available in the editor. The help menu has a few secrets for the text editor and some other features in the keyboard shortcuts file (none for the form editor there however).

Just a heads up, please notice the notes above the forums before posting. This list is not for general support or help topics. Use nbusers for that. This list is for actually changing the user interface of the IDE or base Platform. nbdev is for the actual development of the project, not those built with it, and dev@openide.netbeans.org is for using the NetBeans rich client platform, and thus is similar to nbusers except for using the RCP versus the other IDE features.
> Subject: [nbui] How do I remove Button Groups from a gui (gui builder)
>
>
>
> :working:
>
> When I first started building my gui, I played around a bit and I didn't
> understand how the Button Group-component worked. This resulted in some
> trash generated code that I now have in my code.
>
> Now I don't know how to delete these ButtonGroups. I can't make safe delete
> for some reason, although I'm not using them at all.
>
> I'm also wondering if there's a possibility to give the components in the
> code better names than jLabel1 etc.. In the generated code you're not able
> to go into the code blocks and put normal //-comments so I'd like to have
> something more explaining.
>
> I'm just learning how the gui builder works and I think it's fantastic. It's
> only these code-issues that I have all the time.

This list is for actually changing the user interface of the IDE or base Platform. nbdev is for the actual development of the project, not those built with it, and dev@... is for using the NetBeans rich client platform, and thus is similar to nbusers except for using the RCP versus the other IDE features.
>
>
>
>
>
>
>
