The NetBeans Team is pleased to announce that the migration of NetBeans.org to the Kenai infrastructure has been completed! By now, all registered NetBeans.org users should have received email messages containing their new login and temporary password, and instructions for accessing the new site. Registered users can now access all of the site's services (Wiki, Issuezilla, Source Code Management, Mailing Lists, etc.) with a single sign-on!

NetBeans DVD: Free Shipping Promotion

The NetBeans team is pleased to announce the availability of NetBeans IDE 6.8 Beta, the first IDE to offer support for the entire Java EE 6 spec! Java EE 6 highlights include support for JSF 2.0/Facelets, Java Persistence 2.0, EJB 3.1 including using EJBs in web applications, RESTful web services, and GlassFish v3. The release also includes improved support for PHP, JavaFX, Project Kenai, Maven, Ruby, and C/C++. Learn more!

VisualVM 1.2 Available for Download

VisualVM 1.2 introduces many new features, including:

Sampling CPU and memory profiler
Redesigned charts with dynamic tooltips
Enhanced support for jstatd connections

ALM Plugin with Support for Mercurial and Git

A group of open source enthusiasts and Intland Software continue to develop the NetBeans ALM (Application Lifecycle Management) plugin. This plugin integrates NetBeans with codeBeamer 5.4, Mercurial and Git. The team invites feedback from everyone, and encourages the NetBeans community members to join the project on JavaForge. The release is scheduled for January 31, 2010.

NetBeans for PHP: Formatting and Indentation

Petr Pisl recently gave a presentation at the WebExpo 2009 in Prague. He spoke about developing web applications, and the audience showed a lot of interest in his PHP demos. After the session Petr collected all feedback in a newly created Issuezilla task. If you recall any issues (for example if the formatting or indentation in the PHP editor doesn't act as you'd expect) help us track them down by adding your code sample to the list.

YANPA: Yet Another NetBeans Platform Application

During his research to discover interesting NetBeans platform applications, Geertjan Wielenga is finding so many that he's invented the acronym YANPA (Yet Another NetBeans Platform Application). Now he gets some very nice support from java.net's editor, Kevin Farnham, who finds it interesting that "so many scientific oriented research projects seem to find NetBeans the ideal platform", and he concludes: "NetBeans is much more than simply an IDE"!

NetBeans Sample Projects: Java EE 6 Pet Catalog

We added another Java EE 6 sample project to the NetBeans sample catalog, the Pet Catalog web application. Improving Kenai Services in NetBeans 6.8 Projects

After you check out a project from Kenai and open it in your NetBeans IDE, you no longer need a "Share on Kenai" context-menu action for it. GlassFish ESB v2.1 is now available on both NetBeans 6.7 and NetBeans 6.5.1. The GlassFish ESB design tooling includes the latest version of the BPEL editor, WSDL editor, and more. To install these design time components, go to the OpenESB download page; download and execute the components-only installer, and select the installation directory of your NetBeans 6.7 installation.

jVi KeyBindings 1.2.6 Available for NetBeans 6.7 & NetBeans 6.5

Release 1.2.6 of jVi KeyBindings for NetBeans is now available and tested with NetBeans 6.7 and NetBeans 6.5. Community Agrees NetBeans 6.7 Is Ready for Prime Time

We are pleased to announce the results of the NetBeans IDE 6.7 Community Acceptance Survey: 79% of 144 respondents agree that NetBeans 6.7 Release Candidate is stable enough to be shipped! The NetBeans engineers fixed the 3 most critical reported issues, and we plan to deliver the other fixes via the Update Center soon. We are in contact with the most critical respondents to make certain that all important issues are covered. Overall, this is great news for NetBeans 6.7 from the community. Thank you for your expert feedback!

GlassFish ESB v2.1 released - includes NetBeans 6.5

The open source project OpenESB has published its latest version, GlassFish ESB v2.1. The release includes NetBeans IDE 6.5.1 as the design tool and GlassFish as the runtime. The download contains the very latest SOA tools for NetBeans 6.5.1 such as the BPEL editor, the WSDL editor, and several wizards, that are not yet available from the NetBeans download site. Get them now!

Sneak Preview: Java Card tools for NetBeans 6.7

Ever looked at an ATM card or mobile SIM card and thought, I could run a Java Applet on that? The Java Card is a tiny, secure Java Platform intended for chip cards and other small embedded devices. Tim Boudreau and the Java Card team now created a Java Card plugin for NetBeans IDE 6.7. It's not released yet, but Tim's got some screen shots in his blog to whet your appetite. Why Are PHP Developers Switching to NetBeans?

In his review of the PHP support in NetBeans, Charles Ditzel gives thumbs up to all the key features such as syntax highlighting, PHPunit support, code coverage, parameter hints, and the PHP debugger integration. "NetBeans" he adds, "fared especially well in a comparison with other PHP IDEs when it came to code editing and code completion." Check out the tutorials he recommends and get started with PHP!

Debugging Grails in NetBeans 6.7 Beta

Dean at Grails Blog thinks that NetBeans IDE 6.7 Beta is a great release for the Grails community. He is impressed that “NetBeans' support of Grails functionality is nearly on par with that of IntelliJ 8.1.” In his blog he points out a nifty feature: Did you know you can attach the NetBeans debugger to a Grails application?

My First NetBeans Plugin: UnicodeConverter

Mina Shokry published his first NetBeans plugin: It allows you to convert Strings containing non-ASCII characters to Unicode format and back. Using unicode strings in Java applications solves common problems of character encoding, and this plugin makes it very easy for you to convert strings on the fly.
