Network UPS Tools (NUT) on EFW 2.2

I am setting up a new UPS for my servers and have decided to use Network UPS Tools (NUT) to monitor the UPS and manage the shutdowns during power outs.  All the servers are CENTOS 5 based and I have both the master and slave clients configured and working fine.

I would now like to install nut onto the EFW 2.2 machine but I am not quite sure to best go about this. I have both googled and searched this list but have not found a solution.

Has anyone been able to install nut onto their EFW?  Is it possible to install the RPM package from the Fedora EPEL repo?

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I found the add-on package apcupsd but as I don't have an APC UPS, this wont work for me.  My UPS is an UPSonic which uses the NUT driver megatec_usb.  I would assume that not all EFW users are using APC UPS's - so how do non-APC users manage extended power outs?

Some help or feedback would be appreciated.

I haven't tried 2.2final yet, but 2.2rc3 lacked the hiddev
support used by both apcupsd and NUT to talk to UPSes via
usb.  I wasn't able to get either of them to work with 2.2rc3.

Also, the 2.2rc3 source packages were incomplete and so you
couldn't re-compile the kernel from the source rpms (neither
"as is" kernel nor kernel with hiddev support).

I've downloaded the new 2.2final stuff but I simply haven't
had a chance to work with it yet -- and unfortunately won't
until later this month.

The key questions are:
(1) does 2.2final have hiddev support out of the box?
(2) if not, does the kernel source rpm(s) have what is
needed to re-compile a kernel with hiddev support.

If the answer to either is yes, both NUT and apcupsd should
build in a straightforward way and work with minimal changes.

Thanks Igor for your response.  I can't answer your questions but hopefully one of the Devs may respond.

I have given up trying to install nut-client for the moment.  I'm still interested in how others handle power outages - do you just allow a hard shutdown of the the EFW?

I still run 2.1.2 with apcupsd.  I have not upgraded to 2.2
precisely for this reason.
