New AIML Editor seeks Beta TestersHow many times have you wished for the killer AIML editor app?
It has arrived. Brian Hoecht and his team at AI-Dealer.com have developed what I consider to be the killer app for AIML editing. Basically the tool has three tabs. The first tab is like a combination of a Spreadsheet and a data entry/edit form for patterns, thats and templates. You can load a huge number of AIML categories from multiple files and sort them by pattern, that, topic, template, file, or original order. This is absolutely the best tool I have seen for managing a large AIML set. The second tab displays how your AIML will look in XML format. The third tab is a lifelike avatar to test the AIML you've edited and created. Of course, you can save the AIML and export it to your favorite AIML interpreter (Program D, E, J, M, N, P, Q, R, Z etc.) AI-Dealer and the AI Foundation have come to an agreement to invite a small core group of expert AIML developers to beta test this Editor It is an invitation only and an all volunteer group. We are trying to assemble the best minds in the industry to show the media and business community how far the world of AI has advanced in the past few years. The goal is to create working examples of a redefinition of the man-to-machine interface by: 1) Defining and implementing AIML best coding practices 2) Reworking these across the ALICE AAA code base 3) Creating a deeper and synthetic personality for a photo-realistic avatar with a purpose and a life-like TTS 4) Having some fun and gaining some notoriety in the process. I hope you choose to join us. Please contact me or bhoecht@... to discuss. The new AIML editor is truly a killer app for advancing AIML development. RE: New AIML Editor seeks Beta TestersFor a screenshot of the application visit:
http://www.ai-dealer.com/AIML_Editor.html One thing that needs to be pointed out that the editor in question will be available in a basic and a professional, in both cases under a commercial licence. None of the efforts of the community will be rewarded with a version that includes free use to botmasters of the source or a binary version. The next 'killer application' for the AIML Community is in my view an application that either is open source, or comes with a free of use binary. Until then I prefer a text editor over this application. RE: New AIML Editor seeks Beta TestersMore information on this propsal can be found in this
post to pandora bots in case you're interested: http://list.pandorabots.com/pipermail/pandorabots-general/2006-May/001521.html > None of the efforts of the community will > be rewarded with a > version that includes free use to botmasters of the > source or a binary > version. It might appear this way from the webpage but none of us can predict what this company will do in the future with this product until it has been released in 2007. I wouldn't jump to conclusions so quickly or paint any company that is offering AIML products (free or commercial) in a negative light. The fact of the matter is that a commercial entity has spent commercial dollars developing an application in-house for their bot masters. Why did they have to develop the in-house product with their commcial dollars in the first place? > The next 'killer application' for the AIML Community > is in my view an > application that either is open source, or comes > with a free of use binary. > Until then I prefer a text editor over this > application. Because quite simply this doesn't exist yet. It appears from the pandora posting they almost didn't want to release their in-house product for beta testing but Dr. Wallace convinced them of our expertise and kindness to help. I can see why they wouldn't want to post this product for beta-testing. They currently have a competitive edge by bringing bots into the commercial sector quicker with their product but they also have a product others could potentially buy. What are we going to gain from all of this? What are they going to gain? What are they going to contribute? That's the questions that's making everyone nervous. Well this is my perspective. ------ >From the pandora post: Actually, one of the roles of the panel will be to develop a forum, process and methodology for continued standard setting and evaluation and expansion of the Alice AAA AIML data set, reorganization of it for creation of additional and custom personalities and capabilities beyond that of Alice. and... The first group is to contribute their sweat equity to the execution of the effort of the task at hand - defining, creating and implementing AIML and AI best practices, revamping the Alice AAA data set, forging a deep, recognizable synthetic personality, a relevant business purpose, publishing all of this for the advancement of AI, etc. and... 1) Defining and implementing AIML best coding practices 2) Reworking these across the ALICE AAA code base 3) Creating a deeper and synthetic personality for a photo-realistic avatar with a purpose and a life-like TTS 4) Having some fun and gaining some notoriety in the process. ------ They are offering in exchange for beta testing their software that we utilize their product to improve the AAA set and processes by which to improve the set. By 2007 they are shooting for a well defined and rounded product to market and sell. By 2007 we are shooting for a better AAA set in which we used their product to create. I have no ties and recieve no benifts from this company. This is just my opinions and I hope to not offend anyone in the community. I just see a good symbiotic relationship with this commercial comapany. --- Anne Kootstra <anne@...> wrote: > For a screenshot of the application visit: > > http://www.ai-dealer.com/AIML_Editor.html > > One thing that needs to be pointed out that the > editor in question will be > available in a basic and a professional, in both > cases under a commercial > licence. [Kootstra, Anne] With all due respect, when it's announced that both version will be under a commercial licence, I do not expect them to suddenly change their mind and release it free of charge by the end of 2007. My opinion is based upon currently available information and my expectations of the future. Of course, we all can differ in expectations but it is not to be expected that it will happen. >The fact of the matter is that a commercial entity has >spent commercial dollars developing an application >in-house for their bot masters. Why did they have to >develop the in-house product with their commcial >dollars in the first place? [Kootstra, Anne] Please do not get me wrong, I will welcome any commercial entity using AIML to our community. Matter of fact, I used to work for one and in the past have worked freelance for a number of companies. However, and this is the point I'm trying to get across, that people will be working on an application that will not be available for free to the entire AIML community. >> The next 'killer application' for the AIML Community >> is in my view an >> application that either is open source, or comes >> with a free of use binary. >> Until then I prefer a text editor over this >> application. > >Because quite simply this doesn't exist yet. It >appears from the pandora posting they almost didn't >want to release their in-house product for beta >testing but Dr. Wallace convinced them of our >expertise and kindness to help. [Kootstra, Anne] Like I said, I hadn't read the Pandorabots posting when writing the original message, but I will address it. It goes without saying that I do applaud their generosity but it is a generosity that is of only limited value to the AIML community at large. A commercially available editor may not be accessible to students, young people and most other likely candidates that fall into the category of people willing to work on Open source projects. >I can see why they wouldn't want to post this product >for beta-testing. They currently have a competitive >edge by bringing bots into the commercial sector >quicker with their product but they also have a >product others could potentially buy. > >What are we going to gain from all of this? What are >they going to gain? What are they going to contribute? > That's the questions that's making everyone nervous. > Well this is my perspective. [Kootstra, Anne] As a member with commercial chatrobot experience I can tell you that the questions you're raising will be raised early one in these types of projects. It will take a company with a strong financial basis or very good expectations on their ability to leverage their expertise in a service oriented manner to opensource their own paid for software. There is no doubt about it. At present my expectations are that they will only request a limited amount of money for the software and that the people on the Panel will be provided with a licence to the final first version of the product. This is pretty much the case in most beta-testing situations. Per off mailing list correspondence I have learned that all AIML developed during the beta-stage will be part of A.L.I.C.E. and as such be publicly available. A.L.I.C.E. has been one of AIML biggest promotion and any advancement in her will be beneficial to the AIML community at large as a promotional article. Hoping that this clarifies my position. Kind regards, Anne Kootstra >------ >>From the pandora post: > >Actually, one of the roles of the panel will be to >develop a >forum, process and methodology for continued standard >setting and >evaluation and expansion of the Alice AAA AIML data >set, >reorganization of it for creation of additional and >custom >personalities and capabilities beyond that of Alice. > >and... > >The first group is to contribute their sweat equity to >the >execution of the effort of the task at hand - >defining, creating >and implementing AIML and AI best practices, revamping >the Alice >AAA data set, forging a deep, recognizable synthetic >personality, >a relevant business purpose, publishing all of this >for the >advancement of AI, etc. > >and... > >1) Defining and implementing AIML best coding >practices >2) Reworking these across the ALICE AAA code base >3) Creating a deeper and synthetic personality for a >photo-realistic avatar with a purpose and a life-like >TTS >4) Having some fun and gaining some notoriety in the >process. >------ > >They are offering in exchange for beta testing their >software that we utilize their product to improve the >AAA set and processes by which to improve the set.
