This would prevent segmentation of the user base and enable web forum users and mailing lists users to participate in the same discussions. I know I for one, will never participate on a web forum;). I've seen some web forum software that has this kind of capability. It would be nice, cause then we can get these two groups together. No not at all, each article in the RSS feed display in Google Reader is a hyper-link, if you are interested you click the link and the full article in on the web site opens in a new tab. I agree that segmentation is a problem, but to be blunt, my solution would be to switch to using the forum for most of the communication that happens on the mailing list now. I'm interested in hearing reasoned arguments pro and con.
